What DVD Rental services are there at the moment?

I am with Lovefilm at the moment. Used them before but they sent me a three months for the price of one offer so thought I would give it a go especially as i have Blu Ray now so renting those as well. By the way does anyone ever get the top new releases? Someone must but its never me!

It's a shame Lovefilm bought them all up. Choices used to be quite good and so did ScreenSelect. Lovefilm are atrocious.

I was with Amazon till they transferred to Lovefilm. I told them not to transfer my account, but they did, and I had about a month with Lovefilm before I managed to cancel.

For a time I received unmarked DVRAB that were obviously Amazon stock and Lovefilm branded DVRAB. The percentage of faulty DVRAB was much higher with the Lovefilm ones, which makes me reluctant to subscribe to their service.

I'm looking at Cinema Paradiso at the mo, as I like the fact they stock a lot of foreign films.

I do agree that it's a pity the choice is so narrow now Lovefilm has gobbled up most of their rivals.

Lovefilm has an awful lot of foreign films too.

I guess it's luck with people and lovefilm, some will have a crap time with them, and some like moi will have a fine time with the company. I was with Blockbusters before Lovefilm and had a horrible time with them.

Lovefilm is great for TV series and films that have been out for a while, but not for new releases. Though I found Blockbuster were the same! I eventually cancelled Blockbuster as my top 10 DVRAB had been the same for months and I hadn't had any of the ones I really wanted in that time.

FulhamRoaRABw seems to have forgotten that everyone reading this thread already has Internet access and the vast majority have broadband at home.

Oh well, at least the dreaded immigrants didn't get a mention.:D

I have Lovefilm (ex amazon customer) and Cinema Paradiso. Quite happy with the latter generally. Lovefilm's system of sorting movies into high, med and low priority is annoying. I preferred amazon's numbering system. This way if you have 5 high priority movies and really want to see 1 of them, you have to log on and move all the other 4 into medium priority. I called them to say this is a bit cr*p and they said they were 'looking into' introducing a simpler system of prioritising.
Are blockbuster any better?

I used the library sometimes in the past for films but the discs were in terrible condition for the most part, also the choice is low, not using the library at all at the moment since the bottom half of the library was flooded and damaged, and the film/music section was on the bottom half...

It may be a few months before the local libraries get there next batch of new releases in as the main suppliers of local authority libraries has gone into liquidation.S GolRAB are no more..sad to say.So if you want to RENT the latest titles on the day you want to watch them you have just 2 choices now Blockbuster & your local independant rental store.Thats for those of you who are willing to pay upto

IF & only IF you want to maintain your rental options support what few independant DVD rental stores that are surviving, its quite shocking in inner London alone you have seen almost 80% of rental stores dissapear.Only last week Blockbuster closed one of their massive stores at Clapham Junction St.Hopever if you go down into the junction there is a small well stocked independant still there!
So if you are lucky enogh to still have a rental store near you..get off your a**e & go choose a DVD that you want to watch as opposed to having some anonymous minimum wage worker choose your DVD's for you & wait for the postman!!
RENTAL IS AN OPTION ....STILL

Nah, online renting is fine and dandy for me. Managed to get Smart People through this week and watched it last night, couldn't even find it in Blockbusters when I popped in a few days ago.

I've never had a problem with Lovefilm, but I'm not sure what they are like with the big current releases as they aren't my cup of tea. I signed up because they have a massive French Cinema section, in fact Lovefilm's World Cinema sections are excellent and if that's your thing it's worth signing up just for that.

The prioritizing is very random but it's kinda fun not knowing what s coming next if you make a long list. I'm sorted as my list will take me in to the end of 2009 at least, so I'll just keep plodding away.

I've never had a problem with delivery times, always 2 days after I've posted, so if you time it right thats 4 movies a weeks, 16 movies a month so it works out much much cheaper than shop rentals for me. I've never had a problem with 'dud' DVRAB either. I'm glad I joined as it has saved me a fortune in buying DVRAB and Blue ray.
:)

Blockbusters is completely useless now, they used to get in all the new releases every week but now they seem to only get in the big films and crappy horror films as well
