What does this say about our culture when MJ is celebrated and the real people

Michael Jackson was also a real person who contributed a lot to the music industry. What have you done lately?

Who do you classify as "real people" I wonder?

Walter Cronkite who just died was honored by the media. I was watching documentaries on him all week-end. He just didn't impact the same age group. I learned a lot about Farrah Fawcett also by watching all that was on TV about her.

I do agree that celebrities and politicians are mentioned more than the common man/woman but who makes them that way???? We do, by watching their movies and listening to their political debates, etc. If we didn't watch them and hang on every word and deed they say and do, what then? How many peope watch those stupid reality shows like Jon and Kate (why not name it breeding for money and fame), or Tori and whomever her husband is.
 
That celebrities are seen as Gods and practically worshiped. This isn't anything new.

That is the sad cost of a nation being a pioneer of the entertainment industry. You risk overexposing musicians/actors/models/etc. to commoners who will remove themselves from the real, harsh world and dream of being in this Hollywood fantasy land. Of course, the profit that can be gained from those people are raked in by MTV and TMZ so they can finance more bullsh*t shows that don't require an imagination to come up with.

I'm sure India and its "Bollywood" have the same problem, but on a smaller scale.
 
It is truly sad. I, for one cannot stand the overexposure of entertainment. I believe that they do cover it because the average american/Canadian/Brit, etc. use it as a sort of "escape" for the harsh realities.
ignorance is bliss.
