What does the future hold for users not "on the cutting edge"

No... it's just annoying.

Putting your phone in offline mode? Really?! Most gymrats are lucky to remember to put their phone on silence and most probably don't even know if their phone has an offline mode unless they turn it off.

Nothing good can come out of a phone on the gym floor. Either it goes off with a dumb ringtone or somebody is sitting on a machine gabbing away while you need to use it next. It wreaks of improper gym etiquette.

Sure my smartphone can do it all, but my cheap Sansa MP3 player that sits in my gym bag does everything that I need and I get done with my workouts much quicker without farting around on the phone...

sorry it offends you that someone spends $500+ dollars on a convergence device and you want them to leave it in their locker.

You have turned this thread into a rant about your pet peeves at the gym. How does it have any relevance to the discussion. I was pointing out how much easier it is to carry a smaller device like the N86 in my gym shorts. And, how much more cumbersome the larger 4" screen phones are in that aspect.

We were talking about you and me, putting the phone in offline mode. Not the gymrats. If you feel your that stupid, then fine. But most people, like myself that are smart enough to know how to put their phones in offline mode, and use the mp3 players, should be able to use a more compact phone.

I have lots of pet peeves too. Driving while talking, texting while talking, talking when your in a line in front of me, talking too loud on your cell phone. So, I guess by your train of thought, everyone should leave their cell phones in the box at home. Because its just proper etiquette.

I have spent very little time lately on HoFo, due to the ignorance of a lot of the posters over the last 6 mths. This place has become more of a *****fest than anything else. People turn every thread into their own personal vehicle to complain, instead of putting an ounce of thought into an intelligent response. I will go back ignoring it all together.

yeah, I brought it up as it pertains to the size/weight of phones. You then turned it into your personal view of where and when cell phones should be used. Then you give me the "whatever..." like its my fault your an idiot and cant make a intelligent statement. You've already made yourself look foolish in this thread a couple of times. Once when Gorgonesh pointed out the Palm Pixi was available on AT&T. You try to brush your stupidity under the table, since you wouldnt give up your unlimited data plan? If you would have spent a couple of minutes thinking, instead of speaking. You could have googled and found your answer, before you posted.

Secondly, you complain about people using cell phones at the gym, but then you admit that you use a Sansa MP3 player. So, listening to music is OK by you. Just as long as others around you don't listen to music on their phones. Some gyms have a no cell phone policy, some don't. But now you've become the supreme leader telling people who can and cant use cell phones to listen to music at the gym.

BTW, your explanation on how you hide your phone under a towel, on a table near YOUR pool, doesnt help the rest of the users that don't have a pool. Its just you pointing out that you have your own pool. (in a cell phone thread, Good Job)

Good habit. So many phones break down because people bring them inside the gym where they are exposed to sweat. Especially if the sweat goes between the buttons of the keyboard.

ummm no you threw a little slam about "You must be one of those guys that wears a belt to the gym or pool???" I replied back with a joking reply. You just couldn't let it go so you brought up the whole gym thing.

Don't even give me that **** You started this whole thing and now you are trying to backpedal.

2nd yes I do complain about the phone and not the mp3 player because the phone is a violation of club rules and the mp3 player is not and yes I joined that gym partly because of that policy.

3rd I am human and yes there are many times that I am wrong like the Palm Pixi. I'm sure you have NEVER been wrong before. Oh wait you are wrong in the previous reply alone because where did I ever say that I HIDE MY CELL PHONE UNDER A TOWEL? (Please show me exactly where I said that)

Finally have your thread back even though you were going to "go back ignoring it all together." (oh ya you were wrong there too!)

Seriously dude chill out and lighten up already Geez...:lol:

So, why is it when I make a joke about wearing a belt, its a slam on you. But when you make a comment, its considered a joke. I couldn't let it go??? I was merely trying to explain to you (and any other poor reader that may stumble across this thread looking for information) that the large screened phones are too big and heavy to carry in your pocket when working out. Your explanation only helps you. What if someone wants to use their phone as an MP3 player? Why do most phones come with 3.5mm headphone jacks, tons of storage space, and built in music players? (not to mention the ability to stream internet radio) Because people want to listen to music on their phones.

BTW, if its your gym policy, then you should have just reported the guy and been done. But, you probably felt you needed to be a jerk and argue with the guy (sounds like a pattern developing) So, lets forget about the gym. Let's say you like to jog a couple miles a day. Which would you rather carry, a giant "4 brick in your pocket, or a smaller/lighter non touchscreen phone? Thats the only point I was trying to make. But, as I already pointed out, you have such narrow vision that you can't see past your own needs, in order to add something of value.

I'm wrong all the time, your right. I put the part about hiding the cell phone under a towel. Because thats what I usually do. Not you. Again, you took one thing out of that sentence and forgot the rest of the sentence. (again narrow vision) How does leaving YOUR phone on a table, next to YOUR pool help any other reader of this thread???? It doesn't. It just allows you to point out that you have your own pool. Good for you.

I will go back to ignoring HoFo. But it will be on my terms not yours. I started this thread to get some answers relating to phones.

The Nokia C3 Touch and Type does seem to embody the technology evolution the original poster was speculating might occur.

I have never used S40, but functionally the C3 T&T phone seems to cover 90% of what I do with my Nokia E51 and share its compact form, while having a bigger screen and the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The video demos make it look fast and the interface seems to have elegance, even efficiency, especially for one-handed operation.

Does the new phone have no access to Ovi Maps? Like my E51, it has no built-in GPS, but I find Maps Booster installed on my E51 totally compensates for that, giving excellent location finding in New York City, so the same technology could work on the C3 T&T, if the S40 system software allows it.

How bad is not have multitasking (as I have on the E51)? Do any S40 users have opinions to offer?

Getting back to the speculation, you have to wonder what might be possible, or coming, in the shape of a Touch and Type S60 phone.

I have tried jogging even with a smaller phone (Nokia 2610) and it's still quite annoying. Those arm bands are the way to go, and then it doesn't really matter the size of the phone because it's strapped tightly to your arm.

I'm interested in trying out the 6700 slide. Has anyone had any hands on experience with the 6700 slide. The only bad things for me are a smaller battery, 2.5mm headset, and no wifi.
