I actually sat on one today and really like it. I was surprised at how much it looked like the other sport bikes. I was going to get a cruiser, but I could really use the good gas mileage for my commuting (90% of what I'm using it for) and its the only 250 thats liquid cooled. I wonder if they have any problems? Plus the new price is 4k, which seems like a lot. How come no one else has tried to emulate them?

they are terds. still quick but 90% of new bikes get great gas mileage. you cant complain about bikes and gas. it would be a great learning bike

The Ninjas are all reliable, good handling bikes and are reasonably quick. For around town, the Ninja 250 is fine, but I would not take it on a cross country trip. After the first two hours, you will be tingling for the next 2 days from the vibration. For longer rides, you need at least a 600.
I like the riding position on the Ninjas, feet below you, head forward, arms comfortably low. Cruisers require you to put your feet forward, put all your weight on you tailbone, and have your arms raised. A VERY uncomforatable riding position.
The only new bike you can get for less than $4000 is a scooter. You get what you pay for.

I used to call it a sheep in wolf's clothing. But I looked at what it can do and it's a pretty respectable bike, will whoop an 883 Harley and get the killer mileage doing it. And the girlies and Harley posers won't know it from a liter bike.

$4k is high for a 250 but pretty reasonable for what you can put a ninja up agianst. Personally I never buy new. Bikes take alot of depreciation and there are too many deals out there on used bikes, I've owned 14.

Its a perfect beginner bike for those that never owned a bike before.
But,,, The 250 Ninja has its limitations, its a short commute, level road bike, its a terrible choice if you are planning a long trip or extended freeway riding.
its very reliable, gets up to 75 mpg and has a top speed of 105 mph, but it will buzz and vibrate and feel insecure at high speeds, its lightweight and its effected by wind buffeting when a semi passes you.

Well, the 250 ninja is a great bike. i have one of the older models (a 2000 and my ex has a 1999). They are fun little bikes. Will they win you any competitions for speed-no. But they will get about 65mpg combined (city and highway) and are a blast on mountain roads. They are just lightweight, fun "flickable" bikes.

Yes I agree the price is high for the redesigned model. But hey someone has to pay for all that retooling.

As for emulating them, well years ago Honda imported for a year or two the 250 Interceptor. I have only seen one briefly. It was an early 80's model I believe. I am not sure if it was water cooled or not. They never sold well here in the states, so Honda stopped importing them. I believe they are still available elsewhere thruout the world.

I am sure that if the redesigned 250 ninja sells well, and all indications are that it is a very hot commodity, that the other 3 manufactors will look to import something simular soon.

Ninja 250-pluses-light, agile, very manueverable. Proven reliable powerplant-even it was slightly redesigned. It was detuned slightly to give the new ninja more bottom and mid range torqe, basically the powerplant and electronics are the same, it is just the frame and body plastics, as well as the wheels that were redesigned.
