what could blow inline fuse blown?

What would cause my 80 amp inline fuse to blow?
Specs
12" Dual 4 Ohms SX SERIES Subwoofer
Power Handling:
Peak: 1200 watts
RMS: 600 watts
Impedance: Dual 4 ohms

2-Channel Power Amplifier
RMS Power Rating:
150 Watts x 2 Channels @ 4 Ohms
230 Watts x 2 Channels @ 2 Ohms
460 watts x 1 Channel @ 4 Ohms (Bridged)

the amp says it needs 4 gauge hookups, and i got 8 gauge on it, could that be the problem..

(amp wasnt hot wen it happened, my alpine deck was failer hot tho..)

I did just buy some 6 gauge wire, which holy god is really thick compared to my 8 gauge, i think the 8 gauge because it was so cheap, isnt as great as they said it was.. it looks like 3 of my 8 gauge wires could fit into the 6 gauge wire..
 
yeah the 8 gauge wire is a whole lot poorer quality than 6 but if your amp says it needs 4 your best bet is to get 4 gauge. Or your amp wasn't grounded good could also been a possible problem. And being your inline fuse was blown the amp failed between the battery and the inline fuse
 
You need to use the proper Gage wire. You go with a smaller Gage and it acts the same way as adding a nozzle to a hose. Smaller Gage creates more amperage and it'll blow the fuse/breaker. Go with the 4 Gage that's called for and the problem will go away.
 
Jay.........I don't know anything about what you have, but was wondering if anybody mentioned that a relay might help in a case like yours..........give a good stereo shop a call.
