Hello, I got task to tell children (14 years) of one school about culture shock. I know they will be bored if i will explain them it in scientific way but i can't figure out how to do that in interesting way. Can someone give any ideas? ( I mean like to describe how Indians and Europeans met.)

Culture shock is when people are taken out of their comfort zones (their own cultures) and allowed to experience life differently from what they are used to.

I saw a museum exhibit once called Similiar Concerns, Different Responses about how everyone is concerned about housing, clothing and food. The exhibit showed how different cultures adapt to their environment and it becomes all they know. Putting them in a different environment leads to culture shock. Europeans experienced culture shock, I am sure, when they came to America because the native Americans had their own lifestyle. Ethnocentrism is when we judge other peoples culture based upon our own as what we see is best. For example, I heard someone comment on how the Maori of New Zealand believe the spirit of their ancestors to be in the abalone eyes on one of their houses. They thought that ridiculous, but who are we to say that they are not right? It's wrong to judge other people's traditions and beliefs on our own.

I hope this awkward explanation helps.
