I have a 1999 kawasaki 300 C quad, its not holding the battery charge.. i was wondering what charges the battery? there is no alternator so what actually charges it? Whats the correct battery for this type of quad?

not sure on batt type but the stator coils in the l/h engine case charges the batt via the reg/rec unit...the stators are inside a flywheel 'magnet] that spins and creates the charge.pretty much the same as an alternator on a car but its fitted internally....the batt not holding charge is normally down to the regulator/rectifier unit failing...

While I agree with the other answer, I would add that you need to check the entire charging system. Many times the voltage regulator/rectofier fails because it has tried to compensate for a failing rotor or stator assembly. Get a service manual for the quad and that will tell yo the test proceedure and acceptable numbers for each piece tested.
