What changes/improvements would you make if you were a TV scheduler?

I would reschedule Daybreak to be on from 2am to 6am - i.e. when I'm sleeping. It's the most dreadful prog on TV and watching Adrian Chiles is worse than watching Bruce Forsyth.

I would bring back GMTV and get Penny Smith back. I'd put X factor on on a Friday night when I'm at the pub, and Strictly Come Wobbling on early Sunday mornings when I'm having a long lie.

Cancel:

1. Every programme that shows middle class types getting help to buy a new or second home
2. All antiques programmes apart from Antiques roadshow
3. Any documentary presented by an ex-soap star
4. Total Wipeout and replace it with a British version of Ninja Warrior presented by Stuart Hall

For Channel 4 I'd bring back The Big Breakfast. American comedies are fine in the mornings but I've seen them all a few times now. Other than that I find Channel 4 fine at the moment.

BBC 2 needs to be focussed around comedy one or two nights a week. I remember back 15 years ago, I would watch it for a few hours on comedy nights with shows like the Fast Show, Buzzcocks, Red Dwarf, Glam Metal Detectives, Goodness Gracious Me. So from 9pm on one weeknight I would make be showing original British comedy.

Focus the programming of BBC 3 on 20-40 year olds rather than 15-22 year olds it is now. Bring back a new series Sharon Horgan's comedy Pulling for BBC 3.

New series of London's Burning and Soldier Soldier for ITV with new casts. ITV needs more drama, and less focus on reality tv and gameshows. It would do it's image some good.

Abolish night time crappo quiz shows/poker/roulette.

Bring back classic/old/black and white/obscure/weird/ films in the wee small hours that would never get screened any other time.

What's the point of having 24 hour tv if there's nothing worth watching after midnight.

I 'd put Daybreak on slightly later with Lorraine on before them.

Anything with Richard Bacon or Bruce Forsyth would come with a warning and only shown bewtween 11pm and 7 am.

News shows on the 5 channels would not clash by more than 10 minutes.

This Morning would have news and cartoon breaks in it like Tiswas used to.

BBC1 's schedules needs ripping up & starting again

Shaun the Sheep should be on at 7pm instead of the One Show. The local news should only be on for 10-15mins. The main news should be only 15mins in length. The archives need raiding. All the 'lifestyle' / reality crap needs to go. Classic British films need to be shown at sensible times, along with European/ world cinema offerings at proper times. Strictly needs peddling along with Casualty , Holby etc. Eastenders needs cutting back & eventualy dispensing with & something new to replace it set somewhere else & written along the lones of Jimmy McGoverns 'The Street'

A hour slot needs creating for new / established writers to create new pieces featuring 1/2/3 handers for new / established actors. Watching the the police whizz about after lunatics is what ITV1 is for not BBC1.

To provide the money for the brand new programmes , BBC3 & 4 would go. What BB4 screens is what should be on BBC1 & 2. The drama about Corrie should have been on at 9pm on BBC1 not tucked away on BBC4. BBC1 at present is a rest home for crap. It needs taking back to what it once was.

:)

I'd make christmas more christmassy again. Films , sitcoms etc would all be charismas themed and i'd show more classic christmas films.
I'd fire whoever thought showing a man anus full of sores was decent viewing for CH4. When i was a kid , Friday nights meant CH4 comedy. What on earth has gone wrong?! One minute I was watching "Come Dine with me" , then I was talking to someone until I noticed the tv was still on and showing...the aforementioned.

BBC2- Bring back Moviedrome , I need my good film fix and miss it,
CH4- Show more weird/wonderful films I grew up with in the 90's.

BBC3 has one or two good programmes but is a waste. I'd take "Don't tell the Bride" and open it up to more types of couples as I think it's a good programme that could be really popular on BBC1.

This is weird as i'm such a fan that I can only watch the longer version on Saturday but...return HIGNFY to Friday nights.

I'd like to see some classic dram from before I was born and wonder why programmes such as "Bouquet of barbed wire" are never repeated. I saw " i CLAUDIUS" in 2007 and loved it!

I'd turn the BBC around completely. At present their main objective it to try and "out do" ITV - present the same kinds of programmes ('cos they're popular, innit?) but better, glossier, more expensively, with more celebrities and without advertisements.
So we have the situation that when ITV screens a soap, BBC does the same. When another channel has a news broadcast, same on BBC1.

What I'd do is have the BBC channels provide alternatives to the commercial channels. Not alternative soaps, sports, documentaries and game shows but different genres all together, That way viewers would have real choice: not just whether to watch a game show on ITV, Channel 4 or the BBC, but to have something completely different on, instead.
So there would be more programmes from and about the regions of the UK (but broadcast nationally) and MUCH less sourced from London, more minority interest programmes: such as maybe a half hour slot for stamp collectors or knitting (in the vein of The Sky at Night). I'd have 3 hours every school night for homework help on the childrens' channels, and long-term programmes about less popular sports: such as sailing, hockey or running - maybe with an emphasis on getting women to take part in more sports. Also late-night access for up and coming bands, comedians and other live acts (but with no voting or audience participation - that's so ITV!).

Sure, the ratings would be lower for this type of programming but the production costs would be smaller too - without multi

More programmes about potatoes
Scrap all morning programmes, I don't get up before noon
Make the BBC pay me to watch it
Slap Noel Edmonds
Ban the word 'fantastic'.
More swearing, especially newsreaders, sports commentators and weathermen and weatherladies
Feature the Wye Valley more. I went there once, it's lovely
etc etc etc

Channel 4 needs the biggest revamp
