To clean, gurgle with hydrogen peroxide (there are instructions on the bottle to do this, you'll also get whiter teeth!) A classmate had her tongue done in high school, and I remember her eating a lot of popsicles, and I'm guessing pudding and Jello wouldn't be bad options, either. Anything soft, really.
I have a naval piercing, and I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide, but I guess this can cause it to heal too quickly. It worked for me, six years later I still have my piercing. I used to soak the ring in peroxide while I clean the hole with a cotton ball or swab soaked in hp.
Try calling the shop where you got it done, they could have just forgotten to give you their new piercing packet or something.
