were african americans slaves well educated?

no, slaves learned how to read secretly if they even got to. blacks couldn't really 100% vote till the 40-60's. Some slaves who could read would be considered educated by their days' standards, but it wasn't the norm.

slaves don't get jobs - they're slaves.

No, most of them didn't know how to read and learning how to read was illegal for slaves.
But some of them were taught how to read like Fredrik A. Douglas which the wife of his master taught him how to read.

Generally, No. However, there were some masters who educated their slaves and treated them "fairly well" in comparison to the norm.

Our modern, popular conceptions of slavery are of blacks working on the whites' plantations in destitute conditions. However, while slaves could not vote at all, some did work in artisan shops and as merchants away from their masters. It really did vary from master to master what kind of treatment the slaves received.

Cheers!
