I think "easier" is an incorrect brush to paint with here.
What is easy today may be difficult or mathematically impossible tomorrow. I didn't say people would organize... only that the rebellion had begun. People as individuals, when pushed beyond the brink, are going to lash out with increasing frequency at this system that they feel is wronging them.
It is easier to participate in a representative democracy so long as one exists and the participants feel like it functions and that they can affect its function. It is easy to participate in this way, or not participate at all, so long as the TV is on and dinner is ready at 5.
What solutions do you think people are going to choose when the power cuts out, or when they can't afford the fuel to drive to work, or when too many have lost their jobs, or when they realize that the only ones being represented in Washington are the corporate heads?
People will begin to see "local solutions to local problems" while others lash out a la OKC bombing. As this happens, the FedGov will attempt to tighten its grip, which will cause more people to rebel. At some point, and organized rebellion will probably occur, but it won't be right away.
