Weekly Music Trading Post

Dreadnaught: I am really digging the Bell Orchestre you sent. I've actually been listening to a lot of purely instrumental stuff lately so the album was quite appropriate and much appreciated. At first listen I kind of wrote it off as nice background music, but after awhile it pushed its way to front and center and now, to my aural pleasure, I can't stop listening. I especially like the tracks Elephants, Bucephalus Bouncing Ball, and The Gaze (the horns are fantastic).
Thanks a lot for sending it!
Edit: Air Lines/Land Lines is amazing as well.

Elliot Brood "Arabassador"
from Pobodys_Nerfect

I was expecting this album to be similar to 16 Horsepower, and, well, it was. It was that same kind of dark, alternative country sound that I knew and loved. But this was darker and more emotional than 16 Horsepower. The band is from Canada, but they could've fooled me. I was told that this is "something you'd expect to hear on some kind of violent dark western movie", and I think that's about accurate. I definitely enjoyed, and I'll probably give this a couple more spins.

Rory Gallagher - Top Priority

jtwilliams sent me Rory Gallagher - Top Priority. When initially discussing each others tastes and what we would like to hear, he told me he particularly enjoyed blues and, as it's something I haven't listened to a whole lot of, I decided to try whatever he'd like to send me.

From the bit of research I've done, it appears that this is one of Gallagher's more hard rock oriented albums, but there's still an obvious blues influence in his guitar playing. I've never been one to enjoy hard rock as the majority of it seems to be, to me, a bit boring and generic. This, however, manages to mostly avoid that problem.

While I can't say Top Priority is one of the most memorable or remarkable albums I've heard, it is still fairly enjoyable. He certainly knows what he's doing on the guitar, but some points in the music are a bit forgettable and you get the feeling you've heard this sort of thing done a lot (though it's done overall pretty well here). It's nice music that's pretty easy to listen to at any time, but it doesn't attempt to change your life or really wow you (or at least it didn't for me). It sounRAB basically exactly like you'd expect from blues rock/hard rock. Can't say I will listen incredibly frequently, but it's probably worth hearing on occasion.

3.5/5

Maybe. I'm thinking about another dose of the old 'broaden your swap partner's musical horizons' theme again, but if anyone's got a better idea, feel free to say so here and I'll think about it :)

List updated :thurab: And, yeah, I think hell froze over a couple of times before I got my reviews for the last trade done. So long as we all actually get back to this thread about the albums we get (which we all do anyway) all's well.

Anyway, that's 5 traders next week then. Surely more people wanna have a go at this than that?
