I think I'll just give this whole thing a break for a bit and get another one going sometime next week. If anyone wants in for whenever I get that one started, just say so. I'll get my reviews up over the next couple of days.
You can swap albums with me if you really wanna take part? I don't mind reviewing two albums for this round - it may say weekly in the thread title, but I'm lazy when it comes to feedback, so it's closer to monthly so long as I'm in charge
I've been trying to write this album a review for some days now, and it's been really hard to sum up some specific things to talk about.
Each time I give the album a listen, I can only get one general idea: It's pretty much enjoyable, but nothing I really loved. It was just too normal. Tho I think I can pick some favorite: Black Dollar Bills, Me Ves y Sufres, 1776 and the best of all, the opening track The Black Amnesias. A very well made instrumental track of 4:40 that I wished was longer. It's really varied and contrasted, from a romantic theme to a very raw guitar riff, back to a heartfelt melody... it was perfect. Unfortunately, the rest of the tracks didn't get nearly as interesting (when they were good, they didn't get that special).
Even if that album wasn't my cup of tea, I think The Black Amnesias track alone made it worth the download. Thx for the album Mojo.
As long we all actually post a paragraph or two here about the albums we get (which, credit where credit's due, happens virtually every time), then we can never have enough people!
I'll just edit you into the list now...
Anyone else?
edit - Dreadnaught, I'm gonna give your album a second listen and get my review done before kicking the next trade off tomorrow. I definitely like what I've heard though.
It's hard for me to exactly come up with what I want to say about this. This is my first time listening to Placebo and...I'm not sure. For what it is, I'd say it's good. But what it is is basically a standard rock album, not much new. So this really isn't my normal kind of thing, but it's catchy and I'd say worth a few listens. The drumming is nice and energetic. The lyrics seem a bit weak, but I've never been one to care about lyrics nearly as much as the other elements. Overall, this is decent. It's a bit different for me to listen to music like this, and it's hardly groundbreaking or life changing. However, it wasn't a bad listen and I'll probably come back to it a few times.
OK then Terrible Lizard and trace87 are partners for this week as well.
I made a post a few weeks ago saying that I was going to be gone last week and I thought crash_override was taking over but that didn't seem to come to, but I'm not going to hold it against him, This is still very much alive.
This sounRAB pretty interesting. Do they albums we choose to send to someone have to fit a theme or something?
Edit: Also I have crappy satellite internet and cannot download or upload until have 11:00pm PST. I may need a day to get everything going fully. Would that be a problem for anyone?
Yeah I can see that. I think the theme should not be limited to the weather or time of year. Once we break that barrier there are tons of nifty things we can do; classics, psychedelic, love, hate, dark, happy, whatever.
I'm sure someone will come-up with something good.
