You're a loon. We can't even predict daily weather and you think science has enough of a handle on the climate to predict Global Warming?

You are quite gullible.

You don't get to just throw out whatever bullshit you want and expect to be taken seriously. The "other" arguments really don't bring much to the table.

Are you equating tipping what you feel is deserved to dressing inappropriately at a formal gathering?

That might be a tough sell.

So basically, there is little we can do to stop global warming in the macro sense. Stop worrying and enjoy life.

Please link me to a well constructed, logical argument based in evidence as to how increasing the concentration of greenhouse gasses will not cause an initial short term (on the scale of the earth, not on the scale of a human life) rise in global temperatures.

OR

Link me to a post that logically refutes the vast number of scientific studies pointing toward global warming.

Potential for a great new derivatives market, though. Let's see if we can break this motherfucker again.

Do you really think we will innovate faster than the growth of energy consumption in developing countries? I don't.

If so then our output of energy consumption makes no difference either way.

You don't have to necessarily innovate faster. If people see carbon as a big problem they can force companies to try to prove they're reducing their own emissions and no innovation is necessary.

As with the hybrid movement in cars. That's because it's "trendy hippy faggot shit" as many people often refer to it. It's really consumers forcing the hand of business by creating a desire within the field to change.

The goal of science should be to provide accurate and meaningful information to people. So that they know what they're talking about. In a free society informed people don't need to be told to act....the information alone (if true) is powerful enough to sway their motives.

The problem right now is that with legislation pending and forced changes others try to question the reasoning behind it.

That all sounds good, but the hybrid movement hasn't made a significant impact on climate change. For every responsible consumer, there is an irresponsible consumer that wants their shit to be as cheap and dirty as humanly possible. Many climate scientists believe that without swift action, the consequences will be dire. I don't know how anyone can call the current path we're on "swift action" with a straight face, so one of two things is true: either A) it's too late or B) climate change is exaggerated.

You'd also have to take into account the disinformation campaign that has come about by forcing legislation on the science rather than not.

Do you think more people would be environmentally conscious if they went with good science and recommendations rather than forced legislation.
People freak out about things all the time with just a little bit of news. Just a little bit of global warming news and there's a debate on whether they "believe it" or not.

I mean...there are plenty of things which aren't forced that people care about......salt intake, vaccines, smoking
Sure there are fringe people that don't care about vaccines...but most people understand the good science behind them. Not because of forced legislation but because of good information and telling the public warnings rather than forcing them.

The hybrid movement hasn't impacted climate change YET

It has most certainly impacted the car industry, that you cannot deny.

Billy is right, the reason I bought my Civic Hybrid was because I was voting with my money. That's the way capitalism should work right? It was time to buy a new car and I decided it had to be a hybrid. Sure I could have saved money with a Honda Fit but I wanted to support emerging efficiency technologies. Once that became clear it was just a matter of picking between the superior but ugly as fuck Prius vs the not as FE but less ugly HCH.

Now nearly every car company has a hybrid. Nearly every car commercial and billboard touts their vehicle's fuel efficiency. And now I just use 10 gallons of gas a month.
