Thinking of seeing this at the flicks tonight, read some rotten reviews :(
Anyone here seen it, should I bother?

(Cant Edit title ...should read Movie)

My sister and I went to see it and the movie sucked. It couldn't decide what it wanted to be, a detective story, murder mystery, love story or an action movie it was just completely lost. It was really slow, and the characters were just not interesting enough to care about.

The only decent sequence in the movie was the back story as to how Dr Manhattan came to be this big balled blue bloke. Which brings me to another point, Dr M as I call him walks around starkers swinging it about a lot, but there are sequences where he is wearing briefs, so why could he not have them on all the time? Blue balls and a blue penis....nice....:p:o

After Dr M's sequence the movie slipped back into this boring mess, not that it was doing well before that. My sister and I left when it got to a cheesy sex scene in a little space ship thing, we just wanted to kill ourselves, this was utter S**t. This is the first movie I have ever walked out on. Avoid.

It's an 18 certificate comic book film with every idea under the sun thrown in there. If you don't like the sound of that then don't watch it. Btw it's only really an 18 because they refused to be budged on a couple of the more gruesome shots. It's not THAT extreme.

I really enjoyed it. It is slow moving and its not your run-of-the-mill comic book adventure, but if you are ok with that, it really plays with the notion od "superhero" and what it would be like with real people. Add to that its setting of an alternative history and you have a very unusual mix.

I think its worth going to see for yourself, because there's little else like it out there, so its hard to compare it to something you might know. Personally, i loved the characters and it was their personalities that made it for me.

Don't expect this film to do anything by the book. No clear cuts, no white hat/black hat characters, no traditional story progression.

Do note, though, that it is quite bloody in a few parts and there is a rather explicit sex scene, too. Not what you'd normally expect from a comic book film, so if this sort of thing bothers you, you might not like it.

In some scenes it would be impossible because he changes size. In other scenes I think he just couldn't be bothered. Why would he, if no-one else was around?

Anyway, I liked the film. It's not a great film, despite what some fans say, but I'd give it 8/10 (where The Dark Knight would be 7/10 or maybe a bit lower - that one didn't work for me). The comics are old now and have had their influence, so it's not new and startling, but it was still a bit different to the usual superhero film. I could consider watching it again. It is slow, and meanders a bit. Don't expect X-Men. Just take it as it is.

The thing it most reminRAB me of is the ITV comedy, "No Heroics". It has a similar world-weary attitude and the female lead has vaguely similar hair.

The comic appeared really good which is why I went to see it. I was prepared for something different in fact I like movies that aren't typical popcorn movies. But this was just poorly executed and really dull, I hope they don't make a sequel.

On IMDB it's all "blue penis", in years to come this will be called the "blue dick" film.

Alan Moore really translates badly to film, I think it's because his dialogue which works well in his comics doesn't work in a movie it just seems trite and cliched.

Dr Manhattan doesnt wear clothes because he doesnt care about humanity. Why would he wear our clothes? He doesnt care you can see his dick, plus if you laughed at it he'd vapourise you :D Its also a symbol that he is losing his humanity as the film progresses, he starts walking around naked.

People are acting like they've never seen a dick before.

Anyway I loved the film, big fan of the graphic novel & it was faithful but trimmed the fat into a decent 2 & a half hour movie. Id recommend you see it for yourself to make up your mind

Your witty deconstruction of why you think 'Watchmen' failed to entertain you not withstanding, I've had this from a few frienRAB who fail to see that 'Watchmen' is taken verbatim (almost) from the graphic novel which has been pillaged by superhero movies from 'Batman' in 1989 right up to today.

'Batman' 1989 pinched the mask-removal scene and the balloon imagery at the end.

'Dick Tracy' stole 'The Blank' (Madonna's character's alter ego) and some of the principles of a human superhero from 'Watchmen'

'The Incredibles' almost lifted the entire plot, but in a way even Alan Moore applauded.

'Mystery Men' is practically the 'Watchmen' plit reversed and turned into a comedy.

So did he have a big pair made, or are they part of him?

It seemed to me the clothes he wore were normal clothes, rather than an illusion or part of his body or whatever. So I guess he had some made that fitted a 100 foot tall man, grew to size, put them on, and got to work. He stayed at that size for the duration. Where-as when we first see him naked, he's changing size continually. It wouldn't be convenient for him to keep changing his shorts every time he did that.

It was a good post and I agree with it, but I think my point has some validity too. When we first see him naked he's changing size, but then he puts on clothes for the interview.

whilst i appriciate that Watchmen may have inspired a lot of other works, it doesn't mean the film is any more enjoyable.
