Haven't seen 14, but engaging the press is probably a losing proposition for Chiko. Any information she gives about Twenty Faces, even in his defense, would invite more questions. Twenty Faces is likely well used to being portrayed badly by the press and he doesn't care. In contrast volunteering information would, at best, do nothing to help him.
Also, talking to the press gives them license to start pursuing her. If she starts getting followed everywhere by reporters, searching for Twenty Faces only becomes more difficult. What is worrying is that she's leaving her aunt alone, probably for the same reasons. That decision actually puts her in danger, even though she's equipped to handle it. There's always the 1% chance that the aunt will get lucky at some point.
