Was the Titanic 1997 film that bad?

No, I disagree. He could've left that bit out. James Cameron could've given an old story a fresh "twist" by NOT having the sinking bit.
Think about it, so many movies adapted from real life have been accused of changing aspects of the story here and there. A little tweak in the Titanic story would've got no more criticism than the others.
Of course though, Cameron decided to go for the "safe" option of 100% historical accuracy instead of telling a downright lie.:rolleyes:

I didn't like all the anti-English stuff either - that's for us to do ourselves! but a lot of high budget american films from the 90s (and beyond) had the bad guy(s) as English.

I was actually relieved when the bloody ship finally went down after 3 hours of this hollywood-ised tripe :mad:
 
I have only seen it the once & that was at the cinema when it came out.I thought it was an alright film but it didn't leave me wanting to see it again.
 
This is a piece of Hollywood crap and the fact that it has grossed so much is because the Great American Public are suckers for a tacky lurve story.

The First Officer did NOT lock the third class passengers below deck, that is a piece of anti-British propaganda worthy of Cpl Hitler. He was a hero, helping some of the passengers to survive, and there is a statue of him in his hometown in Scotland.

The smug b*******RAB in Hollywood ought to make a film about the Mai Lai massacre in Vietnam but no doubt they would blame either the Viet Cong or the Brits (such is the depth of their historical knowledge)

It's this kind of "We're the good guys" mentality that has got the Yanks stuck in Iraq.
 
I can't be bothered to read another one of these Titanic is shit threaRAB. I know it's about opinions but anyone who thinks it's the worst film ever made is a fool. I can name 10 films worse than titanic right now.
 
May as well add my tuppence-worth: I think it's a fantastic film, one of my favourites. I didn't like the overly-mawkish music or the stupid Irish stereotyping, but I think it's otherwise solid. I'm surprised to see people complain about the effects, I thought they were nigh-on flawless (and I tend to watch a LOT of effects-heavy films).
 
I certainly would not say it was bad but the first hour and a half or so was pretty dull and it was not untill the ship actualy started to sinck that the film really got going.
 
I get quite obsessed with this film whenever I watch it. I'm usually thinking about it days after - listening to the soundtrack, watching the behind the scenes clips on my DVD etc.

I guess the Jack/Rose story is a tad clich
 
I loved it. I thought the Jack and Rose story was romantic...yes a lot of people say that they like the end and the sinking best but a film purely about the sinking of the ship would have been boring. You need characters to feel things for and to care about. The acting cant have been so bad with 2 of the stars nominated for oscars.

i think the problem that people have with the film is that it is popular. Had it not been the biggest grossing film ever, i'd imagine people would like it more.
