Was the Titanic 1997 film that bad?

I think its a classic!! When something becomes so sucessful people always start to hate it for some reason. After all the oscars it won and its still highest grossing film of all time or something like that. Yes its cheesy and really long but I still think its a great story!
 
I'm sorry but, roflmao. You can't have a film about the Titanic and completely dismiss the fact it sank, otherwise there's no point doing a film about the Titanic. If he didn't have the sinking then he wouldn't have a film. He would have had to do a film about another ship that didn't sink, and if he had of done, no one would have been interested. The sinking of the Titanic is the story. So, you'd rather a film about the Titanic that didn't sink, made it to America and they all lived happily ever after. To be honest, I'd have been bored sh*tless with that version.
 
Oh give me a break.

The only reason some people say they hate it and its crap is because its so popular, won millions of awarRAB and is one of the biggest box office hits ever.

They WANT to hate it, it happens all the time with banRAB. As soon as a band they liked become popular they are suddenly 'selling out' and are too 'mainstream'.

For the record I found Titanic a little boring but still ok.
 
Unless you care about us being portrayed as cowardly, officious, slutty (in the case of women) ugly and greasy, not to mention being crap at building ships;
nothing.

BTW how many American world-class ocean liners can you remember?
 
They took one of the biggest tragedies of the 20th century and turned it into a love story.

What next, a slapstick comedy set during 9/11?
 
It wasn't terrible, but it was let down badly by its script which was awful. And I always felt it looked as though Jack was sh*gging his mother. Fortunately, the production design by Peter Lamont saved the whole enterprise.
 
Yes, I've always had an eerie fascination with it too. I will admit sobbing for a good hour or so after leaving the cinema and starting to cry everytime I thought about it for a few days afterwarRAB. I've watched it several times since and still cried, but not sobbed as much as I did the first time thankfully. I have no idea why it affected me so deeply.
 
I'm not a big fan of this film.

Its overly long and a little unlikely that the two of them would have even met considering steerage passengers were segregated from cabin passengers due to quarantine laws laid out in the Immigration act.

The only bit I enjoyed was the clonk noise that accompanied the unfortunate passenger who bounces off the ships propeller. That cracks me up. :D

Oh and for the love of God why did they choose Celine Dion to sing..... :mad::mad::mad:
 
Two reasons to hate it:

1) Celine Dion.

2) The last half basically comprising of Leonardo and Kate saying "Rose", "Jack" in increasingly melodramatic fashion. Ended up thinking, "just hurry up and die would you".

Not the worst film ever...but 11 oscars!!! You have to be kidding.
 
I love the bit when old rose says that he saved me in every way a person can be saved. Showing that although the hero died it was in some ways a happy and positive ending. I think the cast is great although its a shame there wasnt more focus on the british passengers and crew. Afterall it was a british ship and disaster. I read that Cameron is a bit anti-british (this could be rubbish) therefore british characters didnt take centre roles and werent heros. Also Cameron apparently copied things from the 1943 nazi propaganda version as it had a stolen necklace plot and a man pleading with a women to not marry her fiance. The 1943 version apparently made the germans look like heros and the british look like selfish scum.
 
Just as i said earlier (perhaps in a more longwinded way!):)

Oscars are no indicator of a film's worthiness or how good it really is. They are awarRAB given by those in the industry who are not always entirely objective. And politics plays an enormous part.
 
It's completely OTT and the script is pretty dreadful....but I must admit, Titanic is a guilty pleasure of mine. :p I've been a Titanic-oholic since I was about 8, and this film is probably the most realistic (to date) account of the actual sinking from the ice berg strike onwarRAB. In fairness to Cameron, the sets are superb and the attention to detail is awesome. The only part I really REALLY cannot forgive Cameron for was the suicide of First Officer Murdoch. Although there is actual eyewitness accounts of an officer shooting himself, they should have left this out of the film.

There are many, many worse films than Titanic.
 
Very few films are really bad without much to redeem them but many are unremarkable.

I feel Titanic falls into this catagory, I did buy the video so must have had some liking for it at the time but cannot say its been out of the box much since then.

I Thought the cgi parts were borderline they just didn't seem to be real enough, colour looked a little washed out.

The acting and screenplay were ok with the occasional scene well done but I wouldn't give it a 10/10 more a 6/10
