What temperature is/was it?

You keep on omitting that one most important fact!

What temperature (degrees F or C) is it?

I can't imagine why not. She is a smart girl in a scientific/

I certainly stuck a thermometer into my crock pot when it was new,
to see what it was doing. I don't remember the exact number, but it
was over 140F on warm. I'll be sticking the thermometer into it
again in a little while when I make a batch of chili, after this
thread.

The digital thermometer with the probe on a cord isn't just for
roasts. It's a great way to check the temperature of a crock, or
for deep frying, and more things than I can think of right now.
Everybody ought to have one. And sorry, but throw all those old
junky bimetallic thermometers in the trash.

I hope you are well soon. Now let's have all of us, everybody check
your crock pot's temperature and report back.

I recommend plotting the temperature vs. time. The curve should look
like the voltage on a charging capacitor, because the thermal mass of
the crock + contents takes time to heat up to the steady state
temperature.

There's nothing bad about bi-metalic thermometers, and when I need a
quick check I use an insta-read... I have no use for those digital
kitchen thermometers, I have more than enough things that need
batterys.

Even nearly full, on High and even on Low my 6 qt Rival comes up to
temperture pretty fast, about 20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively.
However even if I could I would never start a crock pot on Warm (mine
only shifts to Warm after cooking time elapses, and then only for one
hour, beeps an alarm when it shuts off). I tried cooking with my
Rival a few times but didn't care for the results so now it's used for
steel cut oats only... does a great job without stirring... when done
I put it into a different bowl and into the fridge. I cook enough to
take me through the week, but I reheat portions in the nuker. Since
the advent of microwave ovens I see no real value in slow cookers, I
think it's easier, and the results far, FAR better to cook food
conventually in large batches, freeze portions, then if in a hurry to
reheat with microwaves. I really don't want a hot meal waiting for me
when I come home if it tastes like crap.

Yup, and there was not the slightest hint of hostility in your tone.
I don't know why some people post controversial experiences but can't
abide with criticism, *constructive* or otherwise. Even I've done
some things so stupid no one would believe (even I don't believe) but
I know better than to post about them here. I can't fathom why some
folks are compelled to post to usenet about their medical history,
sexual orientation, family dilemmas, etc. and then bitch when folks
voice their opinions... don't they comprehend the concept of
*private/personal*? We really didn't need to know about someone
leashed to their toilet... anyone disagree that those occurances
shouldn't be relegated to email only?

You can still feel sorry for her. She's sick and grouchy, and
probably a bit embarrassed that she started this thread. Tell you the
truth, I'd trade her malady for mine. I have a Hahn-Steinthal
fracture that happened 7-1/2 days ago, and isn't getting operated on
until next Tuesday. I'm constantly groggy from the hydrocodone and
muscle relaxers, and still in constant pain any time I'm awake. A
week from now I'll be in even more pain.

Figure 5 looks very similar to my x-ray. The anesthesiologist I
talked to yesterday told me that, "It's going to hurt like Hell,"
after the surgery. Add to that me feeling really stupid having done
it *at work*, a lot stupider than Om probably feels for jumping to an
erroneous conclusion about her illness on the NG.

What do you mean, "when you come home"? It's clear from your incessant
posting to this group that you never LEAVE your house. And how would YOU
know if the meal tastes like crap? You eat garbage all the time!

That sounds awful. I hope you're a quick healer.

The upshot is that this entire long-winded thread is based on Sycophant's
belief that the crockpot was responsible for her illness, but that belief
appears to be completely unfounded and false.

I'd be interested to know what temperature your crockpot would reach on High
if it was filled with oil so the temperature *could* go above 212F.

Enjoy your chili!
