Want to introduce myself

Hello all,

I've been lurking around here for awhile and finally thought I'd at least introduce myself.

I'm living in the Houston, TX area and have been an admirer of Ducatis for some time. My riding background started in the dirt and has pretty much followed Harley Davidson's since the '80's (after they stopped making the shovelhead).

Frankly, my interest in sportbikes started later in life...the limited performance of a Harley based v-twin was something I was getting tired of.

When I decided to change directions in terms of bike styles (cruiser v. sportbike), my first thought was to look at a European brand like Ducati, or BMW. I didn't really check either maker out to throughly, bs about cost (both) and reliability (Ducati) steered me away.

My next choice was a Hayabusa...and why not? Makes perfect sense to go from a cruiser to the worlds fastest supersport, right?

To make a long story short, I love my 'busa, the power and performance are amazing...and I still have a Harley which I still ride (and love) tho I don't ride it nearly as much.

I still want a Duc tho. Alot. But, the times ain't so good to justify 3 bikes in the stable, at least not right now. But my wish list has an 848 on it...in red...So in the mean time, I'll continue watch and learn and maybe post once in awhile. Cheers.

switch that 848 to a 10/1198. You're going to appreciate the torque that much more coming from a busa. And welcome, if you ever go Duc you'll never miss the soulless japs. And no offense, cause I still have a few sitting around, but they do just that.

Ain't that the truth!

848/1098/1198 - they're all very quick in the right hands. Thing is though, these aren't boulevarde cruisers, they really only make sense on the twisty bits..... if you can can get them into that element then any of them offer a lot of fun, and even the 848 is a better bike than most people are riders...

Welcome to the fray OB

I told my wife when we bought our current house 'it's not a one car garage, it's a 4 bike garage'.

It was not open for debate.

I'm up to 2 now, an '06 ZX14, and the 1198s. You'll hear a lot of guys complaining about the pi$$ poor fueling below 4k on these bikes and it's not whin(g)ing or grousing. The in town/in traffic manners of this bike is like a red neck high school girl who's had way, way too much to drink. That is to say really bad. You can manage it most of the time but there are better mounts for that work. Now once the pavement becomes less than straight...

I just reset my priorities to afford the Duc - traded my 2nd bike, a 1990 ZX11, and sold my 2001 Lightning which wasn't getting enough road time and she deserved a good home. Even though she went to New Jersey, her new owner will definitely do that. Of course, once I saw the red 1198s, I couldn't really say no.

Ever since the January bike show, I'd been suggesting to TOWMBO that she should get me that new Duc. After all, last year I took her to Europe (by moto) for over 2 weeks, plus a separate 4 day to Ireland - also by moto.

Her reaction:

So, the Duc wasn't going to buy itself.

We should start a pool to see how long it will take OB to own a Duc

Thanks for the welcome! I see you have ZX14.....you can relate.. Actually, my ultimate wish is for an 1198S. We'll see how this year goes as far as business picking up. Selling the busa and getting an 1198/1198S might be in the cards...

Welcome. I just picked up an 1198 a few weeks ago. I traded in my cruiser, an M109R. I also have a ZX-10R. I really like the 1198 but I still like my 10. Soak up all the info you can about Ducati's and disregard the negative comments about "Jap" bikes.
