W315 and 6165i

The Motorola W315 (MSRP 139.99) and the Nokia 6165i (MSRP 199.99) are scheduled to launch this week. Good news for anyone that's sick of Kyocera, and welcome additions to the Cricket line up.

I just don't get it. Why these little cookie-cutter phones with basically the same features? Sure, it means more choice for the subscriber. Sure, it means a newer line of phones. But are these really any better phones than the ones they already have?

I mean, yeah--Kyocera phones do have their caveats. They are cheap, disposable phones, and are feature-lacking. (I especially hate that they won't charge during use. ) But what do you expect? Cricket offers no contracts, unlimited usage, unlimited text and data, etc.

Where Cricket shines is their new line of multimedia-rich phones. And yes, this includes the Kyocera Slider Remix. The "new" Cricket-branded Nokia 6265i is an absolute wonder for a Cricket customer like myself. But this isn't because it is a Nokia phone--it's because of all of its beefy, un-crippled features.

Cricket neeRAB some damn PDA's and Smartphones in the mix. This is my main frustration with the service over others.

A shame that I have to go through the rigamarole of having to hack a PDA I bought off eBay just to get the same features from another brand.

This is not great news to me, but thanks and I appreciate the update regardless. :2thurabs:

Well look at it like this, the Nokia 6165i is kind of like a beefed up xcursion, it adRAB support for more than just HFP and HSP on bluetooth (read as: yes you can transfer mp3 ring tones to your friend in class over bluetooth), 1 MP camera with video capture support, and Nokia's Series 40 3rd edition UI, which of course means it's made by Nokia, one of (if not the best IMHO) manufacturers of cell phones currently.

The Moto W315 is admittedly unimpressive since the Candid is at the same price point. i don't see this phone selling to anyone for any other reason than a) because it's a Motorola (for everyone that complains they've never heard of kyocera and ut starcom), or b) because it's not Kyocera (for anyone that has owned a kyocera and is sick of the cheap disposable feature lacking phones).

More importantly this is the beginning of a more diverse lineup for Cricket with other manufacturer's coming on board next year. I have heard enough rumor to believe that Cricket is at least looking at putting PDA/Smart Phones in the lineup. Although i don't know if we'll ever really get it or for sure which one it will be, couqh couqh.
Kyocera certainly is not going away right now, and I don't know if they will in the future, I do know that Cricket is working with them for followups to some of the current models.

Just because Cricket offers what it offers does not mean you should lower your expectations on product quality. At the same time the reason that Cricket has so many Kyocera's is that they offer Cricket the best value for the features you get on their phones, and since one of Cricket's strengths is that you get a lot without paying too much, Kyocera fits very nicely with Cricket.

I'm not sure if I had a point to make, but this has just turned into rarabling so that's all for now. cheers!
