Vomitting a taboo in cartoons or not?

I was wondering, was Total Drama Island the first cartoon shown on American kids' TV that actually showed characters vomiting? I've seen adult cartoons do it before (that infamous scene in Family Guy comes to mind and South Park), but never a non-adult show do it in such a graphic matter. Traditionally, it usually seemed like it was just implied. Has Total Drama Island broken some sort of taboo?

I'm personally not fond of seeing characters vomit, it's actually a bit disturbing but was a bit shocked that standards at Cartoon Network let it slide on the show. The question applies to standards for cartoons shown on US TV that are not adult-oriented.

Well TDI is not an American show. So while it does seem to be an unwriten taboo for American kids shows it does not seem that way for a canadian show.

Meh. I'm indifferent on it. I wouldn't *want* to see a vomit scene in a cartoon, but usually it doesn't bug me. I am still surprised, however, when I see Chowder puke something up and it's totally intact. Does his digestive system have a reverse or something?

TDI, from the ads I've seen, is aiming for the reality show crowd. So with things like Fear Factor in mind, it's appropriate for its genre aspirations.

There are a few episodes of 6teen (which predates TDI) that have some vomitting scenes that CN has yet to air, though at least one aired on Nickelodeon or Nicktoons during the show's run a few years ago.

I wish more cartoons had vomiting, especially if they go through the motions. I remember an episode of KND where #2 made #$5's evil sister ralph, and I was hoping "Please let me see something!" Alas, it didn't happen.

Yeah, I'm wondering why you would want to see animated vomit myself. Most people don't take enjoyment in seeing people vomit, or at least that's my case on it, and I don't see a real need to show vomit. I basically agree that people don't want to see people throw up, even in animated format, which is probably why its rarely, if at all, shown.

My personal things is someone vomit in front of me... that sort of set off a chain reaction, like I vomit due to the stink and grossness of seeing someone else vomit. I don't thin I am alone in that since others around me have that same reaction as well, but seeing it animated doesn't gross me out. But I am guessing that there are people that have that chain reaction that I have.

I remember GIR on Invader Zim vomiting in "Door to Door", and while some may say he's just a robot, he does have a tongue and some sort of digestive system. And it just POURS out

In the last episode of Ben 10: Alien Force I remember seeing on of the DNAliens vomiting

A fetish thread pops up every week lately, so I wouldn't be too surprised.

Myself, I can't stand the sight of it, so I don't care if they "cut away" and only play the sound. I think it's just the animators doing us all a favor.

I also remember an episode where she ate a bunch of candy and then her dad spun her around and she barfed on him. I don't think they actually showed it this time.

I don't know if it is taboo. I think its just people not wanting to see it.

Though not often, I do like some potty humor in cartoons and if a character loooks like he or she's going to vomit, then it should be shown. :D It would make the scene even funnier in my opinion.:D
