Voice actor surprises.

Long long ago, back when the internet was new to me, and I found I could look up and learn all kind of pointless things, I learned at some point through a Sonic website the in the old cartoons that Sonic had been voiced by none other than the actor that played Stevel Urkle. This kind of surpised me, as it seemed to have done to others.

The one that really freaked me out was that James Avery, better known as the character Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince, had been the actor who had played Shredder in the old Turtle Cartoons.


What about you guys?
 
James Avery also did the voice of the Junkyard Dog on Hulk Hogan's Rock 'N Wrestling and Jim Rhodes (War Machine) on the first season of the 1990s Iron Man cartoon.

As for personal "most surprising voice actors" (at least, those that immediately come to mind), Mark Hamill as the Joker (who would of thought that Luke Skywalker would turn out to be so versatile), Alan Young (Wilbur, the human foil/straight man on Mr. Ed) as Scrooge McDuck, and Robert Hays (that dude from Airplane:anime:) as Tony Stark on the 1990s Iron Man cartoon.
 
When I was younger I used to think that Mark Hamill the voice actor and the guy from Star Wars were two different people who happened to share the same name. I was definitely surprised when I found out it was the same guy.
 
I was surprised just last night over a voice actor. I was watching Seinfeld and Elaine was dating a guy named David and was surprised when I heard him speak. It was Joe Swanson from Family Guy. I looked it up and found that Patrick Warburton voices Joe. On wikipedia it shows that he is also on Rules of Engagement on CBS. So he has two shows right now.

That man is full of surprises.
 
I was surprised when I found out that Barbara Billingsly, who played Mrs. Cleaver in "Leave it to Beaver," also voiced Nanny in "Muppet Babies."
 
My first one was Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash the Stampede, though more for the "Wait, the second Black Ranger is doing anime now?" factor than anything else (though it does sound a bit different at times from some of his more recent roles).
 
Dee Bradley Baker, the go-to guy for nerdy characters, as the deep-voiced Olmec from Legends of the Hidden Temple.

I second Mark Hamill as The Joker. I'm so used to him as the soft-spoken, mild-mannered Luke Skywalker that I can't even begin to picture The Joker's voice coming out of his mouth.
 
He surprised me as well, when I found out that he's the voice of Appa in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not only that, but he's done several animal voices during his career.
 
On the old Babar series, young Celeste (Babar's future wife) was played by Tara Charendoff (now known as Tara Strong)

Who would have known back then that she'd go on to voice such beloved characters as PPG's Bubbles and Ben "Ben 10" Tennyson?

Also, last night I watched a What's New Scooby-Doo! where the song "Hong Kong Holiday" was sung by...E.G Daily (PPG's Buttercup and Rugrats' Tommy).

And does anyone out there watch the live-action sitcom That 70's Show?
Sure, that's where Ashton Kutcher (spelling, please, people?) got his start, but little did we know that he'd be hanging out with Meg Griffin and Manny Garcia.
 
Not surprising to me; she's a singer first and voice actor second. She actually had a hit on the Billboard dance chart back in 1985.
 
I was mostly surprise that she was the same hot blond chick from the movie Senior Trip.

The one that surprise me was Kevin Michael Richardson doing the voice of Barney from the Flintstones and recently Rob Paulsen doing the voice of the the Weaponers from Green Lantern: First Flight.
 
He was also hanging out with Kanjer Ro and Bob Johnson (Squirrel Boy), as well as Mrs. Helperman (Teacher's Pet).

It's also interesting to note Grey DeLisle had an appearance in one of the early seasons as a teacher Fez was trying to dance with.
 
|Learning that Peter Renaday (Master Splinter in 80s TMNT) once did the voice for Mickey Mouse in some 70s records as well as the Talking Mickey doll in the 80s.
 
Daran Norris does plenty of voicework (J Jonah Jameson in Spectacular Spiderman, Imaginary Man in Foster's, and Dick Daring in the Replacements are some non-surprising ones if familiar with his voice). Some of his more surprising stuff include voicing many named characters in Time Squad (who knew he was so versitile), the Dock Hag in Flapjack, the female Diamondhead and Fourarms from that What-If? Ben 10 episode, and I'll reiterate Cosmo since it's pretty surprising that a guy with such a deep voice could do Cosmo's high-pitched somewhat annoying voice. Even more surprising is that he's done plenty of anime voice work: Digimon Frontier (as Mercurymon), Cowboy Bebop (Cowboy Andy Von de Oniyate, Morgan, Vincent Volaju), DBZ (as King Cold) and was even main/secondary characters in Fist of the North Star (Rei) and the Bastard!! OVA (as Dark Schneider himself).


As for people that surprised me?

I've read somewhere that Brad Sherwood of Whose Line Is It Anyway? fame did a voice in Digimon Savers.

I was surprised that the voice of "Brave and the Bold" Batman was also a main character on the Drew Carey Show.

I was also surprised to learn that Michael Sisterniklass (voice of Dean Venture) did anime work.

When I was younger, I couldn't believe that Spongebob and Eduardo (Foster's) were the same guy. On the subject of Spongebob, Patrick was voiced by one of the titular "Gargoyles" (Broadway to be specific; I find the fact surprising since I've never seen Gargoyles and these shows have a different vibe). Also, I was shocked to learn that Mr. Krabs was Lex Luthor.

Greg Eagles (voice of Grim and Sperg in Billy and Mandy) is one of the Espada in Bleach.


One of the most surprising of all (which I should've recognized from the get go): Mel Brooks as Santa Claus in the Jimmy Neutron Christmas Special.

A more minor one: I was playing Destroy All Humans when Orthopox pops up. When he starts talking, I ask: "Wait, Zim is being competent in his plans for world domination?!"
 
Agree with FightingDreamer. I was amazed to find out that one of the early Power Rangers was doing voice acting for a living. And not only that, taking on a big number of major roles.

Also surprised to find out "Muppeteer" Kevin Clash who voiced Splinter in the live action TMNT movie is also the voice of Elmo!!!!
 
Don't forget that he also voiced Gray Fox from Metal Gear Solid.

Also the ones that surprise are Wendee Lee voicing Haruhi Suzumiya and Nicole Sullivan voicing Shego since i remember her from Buzz Lightyear and notice her on The King of Queens.

Totally forgot Jim Cummings! I didn't know he also voiced Winnie the Pooh, i mean seriously he's the one that does mostly villains, crazy characters and didn't realize that he voiced Winnie the Pooh, of course he also voice Tiger but i was mostly shock with Winnie more.
