Villain Type You Hate More: Ultra-Serious or Comedy Baffoon

You talk like Xanatos is some schlub here. Come on, give him more credit than that. Xanatos makes Lex Luthor look like Beavis.
 
Main difference between Xanatos and Luthor. Xanatos's plans actually worked 99% of the time.

He'd spend less time trying to destroy Superman and more time manipulating him like the chess master that he is. Why destroy such a powerful being when he can be used and not even know he's being used.
 
Xanatos doesn't want to be president. Why would he want to? His success has seen no limit under the current system. He's not out to take over the world or bring our system of government to a crash. He doesn't need to.

He'd have to step down as CEO of Xanatos Enterprises to be President. Not to mention that being President does not fit into his overall goals.

Luthor only ran for President as part of a dick waving contest with Superman. Xanatos has nothing to prove. He's more powerful where he is.
 
What I hate more is when a show starts out and the main villain is ultra serious then as the show progesses, he/she becomes more of comedic buffoon. The villains in Kim Possible come to mind the most, the only villain that has a brain on that show is Shego.

So basically I like the ultra serious ones that can kill me at any moment but would rather wait to kill me at a time where my worth to them is useless.
 
Aladdin had made a valid point, even though it was a trick. Genie was stronger than Jafar. Consider the possibility that Jafar somehow lost control over the Genie, and the lamp ended up in someone else's hands, especially those of someone tied to the palace. He was simply covering his bases and overlooked needing a lamp.

I prefer ultra serious over comic buffoon, although villains need human quality to be believable.

As for villains, in my opinion-- I'd have to say I tend to enjoy the comic villains more. Even though they're evil-- it doesn't mean they can't be entertaining in a funny way. I will admit though, when it comes to seeing the hero(es) beat the villain-- it's more fun to see a serious villain get what's coming to him. I almost feel bad for the comic villain.
 
But Naraku too became a total joke. He went from a really awesome anime villain to a generic one who refused to die after over 100 episodes. Sorry, but I look for entertainment value in villains too and he lost his a long time ago.



Guess you just weren't watching the movie with the right mindset. Many people find Hades to be among Disney's best villains.



Just because the don't have deeper reasons for being evil doesn't mean they all don't have motivation. And how aren't the likes of Ursula, Jafar, Scar, Frollo, Shan Yu, and especially Maleficent threatening? As for generic, maybe but there are plenty of non-generic Disney villains out there like some of the anime villains that have been mentioned: Naraku, Orochimaru, Freeza, etc.



True, I haven't seen too many truly inept female villains. However, I have seen Excel Excel from Excel Saga and despite being the main protagonist of her own show, she does work for a villain and is probably THE prime example of a moron female villain. :p
 
I like villains who are credible threats, who get the job and sometimes get away with minor victories. I also want my villain to expect the same level of competence from their underlings. Just like Xanatos would fire Owen if he'd let him win in judo just to stroke his ego. Why the heck the old toon Shredder kept those two idiots is beyond me. He should have just let them rot in prison and get better underlings! I also don't want them to degenrate into buffoons later on!

Once all that is established they can make me laugh if they want ojaru ;)
 
Well, they're not threatning because they don't have a prescene that gives the impression that they're people who you don't want to mess with and they get their butts kicked easily, they're so easily tricked and they how they get beaten is too easy.
 
I'll give you TFA Megatron and Beast Wars Megatron, because they ARE awesome, but (assuming we're talking about the live action movie) what made that last Megatron so special?
 
GregX already covered Maleficent, but as stated, being a comedic villain doesn't mean Jafar isn't an enjoyable antagonist. Let me put it this way, saying that villain A is horrible because he/she is isn't like the much more serious villain B is a somewhat hollow comparison.

While Xanatos doesn't lack a sense of humor, a more suitable villain to compare Jafar to would be The Joker who is both comedic and menacing.

Do you have any favorite humorous villains by any chance?
