Verizon Service Question

Hello,

I live in a small town in SE Oklahoma. Currently the only cell phone providers in my area are AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. I am looking at changing providers because of a dispute with my current, US Cellular. When I moved back home I had Cingular, which of course is now AT&T. The reception was horrible, plus this was right after the merger with AT&T, and I hate AT&T. My question is that in the next town over, which is about 35 miles away, Verizon is offered. Since Oklahoma has a huge CDMA coverage area, Verizon would be my only option I would consider, but since I don't live in that area, can I still get service through Verizon? I could use a friends address if need be. Would there be charges if I used my phone more outside my "home area"? Thanks in advance for you help!

Verizon has good coverage over the entire nation, so as long as you live in an area where you can pick up a signal, that should be all that matters. Is it 35 miles to the nearest VZW store? You should call them and ask about coverage in your area ... probably would want to consider their NW plan.

Yes, the store is about 35 miles away, but I know their coverage area and that ends about 15 miles away. What is the NW plan? New Wireless? I was told by someone, when I switched from Cingular, that if I was not in my home area a majority of the time that Verizon would cancel my account. I was just wanting to know if anyone else knows this to be true.

By "NW" I mean NationWide. You may have already checked this, but I have included a link to a Verizon coverage map:

Coverage Locator - Verizon Wireless

The map includes a scale selector so that you can zoom in and check out your specific geographic location. I would still call or visit your nearest Verizon store and ask them. Obviously, if they don't offer coverage in your area, that would settle the issue.
