Velvet Underground

yeah...i agree with this. i've listened to them enough to say i really enjoy their music and i am also a lou reed fan...but i don't think i can say i've been hit with a big urge to pop on some VU recently.

I'm surprised Nico had any hits! I know what you mean though ;)
Apparantly her album Desertshore is one of the most depressing things ever, i'm up for that.

But it stripped down their sound even more, Sister Ray has what, one chord change in 17 minutes? They took the ideas on their debut and experimented with them further, I can understand not liking it, but I don't see how you can say something like Sister Ray doesn't represent a step forward. It's even less complicated than their debut, but isn't that their goal? The ultimate stripped down sound? I don't think the experimental edge pushed aside the music, White Light/White Heat is a great tune and that riff in Sister Ray...

Oh I definitely didn't want to compare Journey and AC/DC POSITIVELY to TVU... Sorry if it came across that way :S I meant, TVU played rock and roll in a very unrefined manner. BanRAB like AC/DC and Journey took that formula and made it (in my elitist opinion) very boring and lifeless.

& Nico is definitely my second favorite. I would definitely place it in the same ballpark as WL/WH.

The first two albums are nearly perfect. I could live without the others. Whose idea was it to have Doug Yule sing? (Rhetorical question)

Great band, their albums sold poorly back in the day, but pretty much everyone who listened to those recorRAB ended up starting a band, its rare for a band to have so much impact without selling tons of recorRAB or getting airplay on the radio.

i happen to dig Lady Godiva, but nothing will top the VU&Nico, i genuinely think that is the album that changed my whole perception of what music should be and do

I really despise Loaded as well. There were a couple good songs, Sweet Jane, Who Loves the Sun and New Age, but the rest of it was just annoying. I also found White Light/White Heat to be a little much for me. I actually only liked The Gift and Here She Comes Now.

That being said, VU & Nico and there self titled album are among the best, most original pieces of art I've ever heard. I think they still stand up well today even. Lou Reed was one sick ****, and that's an important part of being a great artist sometimes lol.

Some of my lesser known favorites are Venus in Furs, The Black Angel's Death Song and Jesus. Everyone should check this band out, they influenced alot of banRAB, even if you can't hear it right off the bat.

I love the Velvet Underground. They are such a creative and inspiring band. I cringe whenver they crop up in conversation and someone says who. In my opinion they have had such an influence on modern music that everyone shold know them

No need to be sarcastic. I am just here to understand more about the band. It's better than me being like a guy who wrote an article completely bashing the VU.
By the way, what does the last stanza in "The Black Angel's Death Song" mean?

"Start the game I che che che che I
Che che ka tak koh
Choose to choose
Choose to choose, choose to go."
