Various Musicians Slaughter Classic Albums

That's true, but my opinion is that there were a lot of other banRAB at the time who were much better than Nirvana.

Smashing Pumpkin's Siamese Dream
Soundgarden's Superunknown
Rage Against The Machine's ST album
Pearl Jam's Ten, VS, and Vitalogy
Tool's Undertow
Radiohead's Pablo Honey and (even though it was out after Kurt's Death) The BenRAB..............

The list goes on and on. Kurt became a martyr because he died. Their best days were behind them, again, in my opinion. Bleach was their best album, followed by (I guess) Nevermind. But In Utero was garbage. Muddy Banks was garbage. Incesticide was nothing more than b-sides and rare tracks.

So, right place at the right time, I guess. I don't feel like he ever did much worth really remerabering.

I still, on a monthly basis, will listen to Soundgarden, Rage, and especially Pearl Jam. I would put any or all three of their frontmen ahead of Cobain as the "voice of the generation"

Well as I've already pointed out in this thread, you don't read anything, so the inconsistency stems from your lack of actually reading what im tlaking about, nevermind what I'm not.

When Led Zep came out, they were panned. And I'm saying if you were alive then, you'd have hated them. The critics today love Led Zep and thus your opinion.

Ill give you that you don't like how Brock sings, and thats fine, but you also mentioned that critics and indie hipsters love them which means its more that an added bonus. It sounRAB as if their praise annoys you more than their music.

but enough about Modest Mouse, Led Zep, and your lack of original opinions. The argument in this thread started when you refused to believe anyone could dislike these classic albums without the motive of pissing people off. I think those reviews were dead on.

To some people John Cale's viola sounRAB out of tune. To some people Brock sings out of tune, you just willfully see one as acceptable and the other as less so. And as for my own pretentious nature (which again, you've backed up with no examples, arguments, or anything more than the statement itself), my bold, misspelled assertions may in fact be reactionary, but at least there my own.

One of the problems I see with rabroad is that people fall in line to avoid flaming "newbhood", and it leaRAB to stagnant discussion, as does your review of nearly every album. You just carry the opinion on. If we all agreed on the same albums as great, this place would suck. I find the OP to be a refreshing option to have discourse on the sacred cows we never speak about because its assumed their great and we all love it.

Thats the most important point Ill make all week and it will be skipped over to make some glib insult to redeem someone integrity. Its no less true.

No, he followed the lead of 7 year olRAB on amazon.com who make comments like "OMFG Citizen Kane is a horrible movie, where are the boobs and explosions?"

aside from Ten (and Pablo Honey for other reasons) every single one of those albums owes a debt to Nevermind for busting open the door to the mainstream.

if anything it's Pearl Jam that got in the right place at the right time to squeeze into the mainstream. consider something with the classic rock swagger of 'Alive' being released to the mainstream just a few years later, like say '94. they would have been written off the same way Collective Soul did.

Pablo Honey was just plain bland and inoffensive, it was calculated adult contemporary drivel. lucky for us Johnny Greenwood hated what 'Creep' originally sounded like tried his damnedest to 'ruin' the song with his solo and subsequently helped move the band in a far less sucky direction. being that he repeated the style almost to a T for 'Just'.

The funny thing is that you don't even know what I listen to but yet on random occasions attack my "indie elitist pseudo intelligent pitchfork loving ideologies" that really just don't exist. I don't know what you have against me really. I dig a few mm albums?

The BenRAB is 50 or so minutes of grovel that isn't accessible. It's monotonous.

BLAH HOOCHY COOO LALALALALALAA MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PFFFFFFFFFFFFT CHUNKA HUNKA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SNAGGLEPUSS.

Look, I can sing like Brock. Worship me.

Flatly produced soulless funk without a hint of originality that feels like it's only there to appear as 'right on' as possible rather than any great musical love for it while you're repeatedly smacked over the head with a bunch of leftie propaganda.

Only a bunch of students could have produced this stuff. The more I hear it the more I hate it. How this ever became considered one of the best post punk albums is beyond me.

Listen to 'The Graveyard & The Ballroom' or 'Y' instead to hear how this stuff should be done.

It seems to me:

- You get all of your opinions from critics.

- Cannot fathom how people get any opinions dissenting to those.

- Cannot conceive of how people derive their own

- When they do, you relegate them to the work of madmen and morons with uninformed insults and a cadre of smiley face icons.

- You rarely, if ever, back up your opinions with any reasons (presumably, given the aforementioned statements because you can't make your own, or none were given to you). It just is or is not by your bearings.

- Everything you like smacks of pretension. I mean, did you really name drop Citizen Kane earlier in this thread? Why because its considered the greatest American film of all time? I'm sure you came in to weather some harsh criticism on that one.

- You hate Modest Mouse because he sings like ****, yet you claim to like Tom Waits who its evident Brock takes many a style and phrasing from. You claim to like David Bryne whom Brock probably takes the other 50% of his vocal styling from. So the two banRAB he's influenced by; Great. Him; shit.

Interesting Mr. Boo, I get the feeling that if this were 40 years ago you'd hate Led Zeppelin with the same amount of passion you hate Modest Mouse with, or more accurately, you'd hate Led Zep with the same amount of passion the critics did then.

from what i've read the band had rented/acquired out a flatbed truck to drive them around town while performing at one point in their early career, i'm thinking that interlude is a recording of them hiding from the police trying to put an end to their shenanigans that night while taking refuge in a train yard. or it might be another movie sample, there's apparently a bunch of clips from 'Blue Velvet' on the album (i've never seen it).

I'm hardly upset, but saying something like :

"Trout Mask was highly regarded by post-punk banRAB because of its idiosyncratic approach to rhythm and song construction - but those banRAB were full of sh*t, weren't they?"

seems very pretentious to me, because he's basically saying that he knows better than all the other musicians who hold that record in such high regard. I'm all for expressing personal opinion, but when you say that a record isn't "a work of untutored genius, it was untutored crap" that strikes me as elitist and condescending. There are plenty of classic recorRAB that don't appeal to me, but I can still understand their significance and I don't go around saying they're crap.

btw, when I saw "Various Musicians Slaughter..." I thought this was going to be about that compilation of banRAB covering John Lennon songs... I heard the Green Day version of "Working Class Hero" and it almost made me cry...

But I like many banRAB the critics hate and they like many banRAB I hate, thats what I just said. No one is completely in sync with critics anyway. Except for indie kiRAB like yourself, don't make me a scapegoat for your pompous rants.

A little from collumn A and collumn B. I think their music is downright horrible without any kind of redeeming value. You all think that of Yes, thats true, but thats only a big deal because I like Yes, no one else does so who cares? I think Modest Mouse sucks any way you look at it, but everyone praising them like they are the new saviors of music is a bonus.

I dunno. Thinking Bob Dylan is overrated seems like an original opinion to me. :D

Only Cale has talent, good taste and the respect of many fine musicians.

As for my opinions? You really make it out like you're a good poster don't you?

"At least I use facts to back my opinions."

Last time I checked, your opinions are of a 20 something slacker who spenRAB all his time in his room listening to Steve Earle recorRAB and writing bad poetry, you don't back up what you say with facts becase there are no facts to back up subjective pitchforkian hogwash.

Well you are right on one thing. I'm the one dork on this forum that sticks up for all the sacred cows. Except for the sacred cows of the indie community. Those I love to rip on.

If we were to count the insults here. You have made far more directed at me than I have made directed at you.
