how can this be the same van helsing from "Dracula"? In the trailer, dracula addresses hugh's character as Gabriel, but wasnt van helsing's first name Abraham? wtf...

Well I saw this movie again. I loved it more than when I saw it the first time. I cant wait for it to come out on dvd.

I noticed David was in it too, E_E. Can't wait to see him.

Thanks for posting those pix! The poster looks awesome. I'm excited!

As far as I know the original Van Helsing is actually called Abraham Van Helsing, they just called him Gabriel "because Abraham isn't very cool for an action hero". (I have an article about Van Helsing here where they say that and I'm gonna post it as soon as I can, just give me a little time to translate it:D)

And as far as I remember, being the left hand of God wouldn't make him like the Angel Gabriel. I mean it's a legitimate thing to say (I actually thought that aswell when I first heard it) but I remember one of my professors telling me that everything that was "on the right side of God" (during creation and all that) or that was done with his right hand was good, everything that was on the left belonged to the Devil.

Could be wrong about this, though. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

I'll hurry to translate the article!

So....I saw the movie yesterday and I gotta say:

The un-dubbed version is a million times better than the German dubbed stupid version!!!!

I loved the accents (see they took them out in German), Dracula was so cooooool! And I don't have to mention that it's actually a crime to even want to dubb Hugh Jackman. :D

All in all: I love it in English even more than in German.

But it didn't help some of the effects though...I just hate the scene where Mr. Hyde carries Van Helsing around...it just looks so wrong. What do you guys think?

I've been to see it!
I loved it!
it was a bit sad at the end. I mean the gd guy killing the girl?
That's harsh, but the way she woz with her family at the end- that was nice.

I think they could have explained his history a lil bit better.
I mean dracula kept calling him Gabriel and if he is the left hand of god wouldn't that make him like the Angel Gabriel?
Also maybe he was immortal n he just forgot his memory. or maybe he lived out his life and died and was then sent back down again to defeat Dracual. I mean he said he couldnt rememba anything- maybe thats why.
I don't know I'm just speculating.

does any1 know where i can get some Van Helsing avatars?

and here is my review of sorts:

i saw Van Helsing today!!! (May 9th)

this movie totally rocks! :hotpinkie:

starting off as B&W. absolute genious. and very fitting since this movie is set in the late 19th century. to make it even darker. and i liked that most of the movie was set at night. it added that extra bit of atmosphere and depth to the story.

when Frankenstein threw Dracula into the fire i thought, he's dead. but then i remembered he can't be killed by fire, or any other of the traditional methods, stake, holy water, decapitation, etc.

Dracula not having a reflection. they got it right this time, vampires don't have reflections well done i say  and also that sunlight can kill them.

the mirror is the entrance to Dracula's castle. i didn't expect that either. and the ring on Van Helsing's finger was originally Dracula's. must be why Van Helsing couldn't remember his past. the ring probably had something to do with it. and Dracula's finger not growing back. that is strange  i thought that all of his body could regenerate. guess it must also have something to do with the ring.

Kate Beckinsale, she looked so hot in those tight pants and also in the red dress

the only thing that can kill Dracula is a werewolf. that took me totally by suprise  i never thought of that. but now that i do think of it a werewolf is a vampires arch nemisis so it makes sense that only a werewolf can kill him.

he was born in 1422. i think his name was Vlad Dracul when he was human, even though that wasn't mentioned in the movie i know that, that was his name when he was human. then he was murdered by Van Helsing in 1462 and he made a bargain with the devil to continue living, but to do so had to drink the blood of others. so when he became a vampire he kept his last name but changed it to Dracula. i always wondered how Dracula came to be and now i finally know.

the end battle between Dracula and Van Helsing was brilliant!!! it's a little bit strange that Dracula didn't use his speed to his advantage. if he had i don't think Van Helsing would've been able to kill him. Van Helsing as a werewolf, :jaw_drop: i loved it. he looked much bigger and badder than the other werewolves. too bad he killed Anna. but at least she and her family can RIP now.

Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde (sp?). i wondered who it was when i saw him in the trailer.

when they were transporting Frankenstein to Rome. i thought it was a very clever thing that Van Helsing was the decoy and Anna was the one who actually had Frankenstein in the horse drawn carriage. that Bride of Dracula fell for it. they're not very bright. and the horses, they can jump over a gap like that  lucky they did or Van Helsing would've been dead.

the Brides of Dracula  they were hot too. only when they were human looking. when they were in vamp form, :puke: they were damn ugly. but damn fast.

the masquerade ball. it was a total surprise to me that every1 there was vampire. the fryer/monk using the ball of sunshine thingy to kill them was pure genious. "i know what it's for now". funny when he was in his lab and he didn't know what it was for until having a near death experience of sorts.

the caretaker lol what a doofus. "this coffin is a bit too tight for me, but it will do just fine for you". then he gets mauled by a werewolf.

great effects they used for the morphs. i think in this movie i didn't go, that's just an effect. i actually looked beyond that. and i'm glad i did, i enjoyed the movie more b/c of it.

the end credits. they were amazing. very elaborate. i didn't expect them to be so elaborate.

i am definitely getting this movie on DVD. i liked it even more than Underworld.

i keep stumbling upon sneak reviews for spoilers and such, and not being able to sustain myself until may 7th, i read them, being a spoiler whore...and everything i've read so far is quite negative.
look.gif

i knew this was gonna be a problem for the movie after seeing the disappointment that was league of extraordinary gentlemen...of course, i won't let these negative "reviews" diminish my spirit and enthusiasm i have for seeing vh, but my constant fear of will this be a hit, will it bomb? keeps plauging me.

is this going to be a big budgeted action/sfx movie that's gonna flop just like the aforementioned lxg? i sure hope not. the casting of hugh jackman is sure to bring in the crowds and give it a successful run in the box office. like i said somewhere in here earlier; i'm going just to see beckinsale...whether the movie reeks or not.

the advanced screening is on here tonight (the 5th) but i didn't win the tickets so i'll have to go c it tomorrow when it is actually released or on Friday.

i didn't and haven't cn the dubbed version. i just pointed out that if the German trailer had bad lip syncing then the German version of the movie probably has the same problem.

i should've been more clear.

Yeah, I know. May (I think that's when it's coming out), seems so far away though. Hopefully it will be here real quick.

Yes May 15th
