Valve Adjustment Confusion

I'm planning to adjust the valve clearances on my 2006 c50t this weekend but want some advice and clarifications on the procedures I have researched.
First of all I have an excellent print out of Brian's step by step from the VolusiaOwners.com website. I also have the model specific Clymer manual which also gives a play-by-play, both very detailed but slightly different.

Two questions I have?

1. Clymer says to rotate the crank clockwise to adjust valves, Brian page says to rotate counter-clockwise to set? (does it make a difference)? Please don't tell me that it only matters if I want to go in reverse! :)

2. How do you get the pair valve tube up high enough to get the clearance to remove the cover from the rear cylinder? Remove pipe? Bend up slightly? or ?

Thanks in advance

Since no one has chimed in yet, I'll add my 2 cents.

1) I also did my first valve adjustment (at 9k on my C-50) using Brian's instructions. I got my information from VoluisaRiders.com. There are many C-50 riders that have used Brian's instructions there, with no ill effects, though I can't say about the Clymer difference. Also before you start, you might want to do a search under "JPAIGE METHOD" on that site. It is a MUCH easier way to adjust the valves without use of feeler gauges. I'll let you read up on it then decide if it's for you. I used this method and 4k miles later, mine is still running great!

2) There is enough give in the tube to pull it up about 1/8th inch, which for me was j-u-s-t enough clearance to remove the cover.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Sandman for the advice. I'll research the "JPAIGE METHOD also to see what it has to say. I'm not afraid of using any procedure that gets to the correct results. Kind of thought that more c50 owners would have done it themselves and could give advice like you, but apparently not. I'm also putting in the iradium plugs just because...... Could you determine if your valves out of adjustment, or pretty close before the procedure?
Thanks Again

Impossible to tell only by sound, and I didn't check them with the gauges before or after. Since so many before me had done this on the other site and verified the clearance was correct, I didn't see the need.

I'm reading mixed info on valve adjustments. Get them done @ 4000k? on a S50? Do I need any special tools? I am going out to get the manual now. I purchased my bike w/230 miles, changed the oil and final gear oil myself and now have 4000k on it. Never brought it in for service. Seems like a ripoff? they wanted like $200 for the initial oil change.

Maybe but probably not. That $200 covers MORE than just an oil change......or at least it is supposed to. Probably includes checking the valves......which means that you are definitely due now.
