V-Twin vs I4

I've had a chance to sit on the S1000RR as well. Its more comfortable than my 1098, it is undoubtedly going to have more ponies, I'm sure it will handle well, the engine will be smooth, and I can probably sell my Duc for almost what it would cost to buy the BMW.

But somehow, down in my gut, it would just not be the same as sitting on my Duc, feel the bike shake as it starts up and listening to the clutch through the ventilated cover. There's just something satisfying about a Ducati...or am I just getting old and crusty?...

Scary, ever since I met Elton at the track in NJ I have come to agree with him in a lot of ways.
I love all motorcycles no matter what they are.

Dude you have a way of saying things in a very negative manner.

+ 1

The 749/999 are ugly compared to the 916 series even though the 999 is a super bike.
Sort of like the 08 CBR1000RR super bike in many ways but to a number of people it is FUCLY!

Anyways:
InLine 4 or Twin?
I am not experienced enough to know the difference. I love riding my RSVR because I can open it up earlier out of a corner and it has a lot of torque to pull me out of it. Then I jump on my MV and think "who the heck needs torque when you have HORSEPOWER?"
One thing that to me is clear is that there is a HUGE difference between the way Italian Bikes are built and performed compared to Japanese bikes, they are two total different train of thought to me.

I personally love my MV, Duc, and Aprilia because they are unique and to a certain level prestigious. It is really not because one is a Twin and the other is an InLine 4.

Still we have not yet addressed the original question of what is the difference/advantages of one over the other.

well... to the topic... which is better.

From my LIMITED KNOWLEDGE (throwing that out first).... on a track with long straights... go with IL4 since I hear they have the top end power. On a tight curvey track with not so long straights your V-twins or L-twins are the way to go becuase of the low end acceleration/torque.

am I way off?? or do I have the basics right? theoretically speaking of course.... the RIDER is a significant variable in any case...... always remember that.

I have to confess that I've put my 1098 on the track, and was too cautious because I didn't want to prang it. So, I went out and bought a lightly used CBR600RR and tracked it. The 600 is awesome on the track! Its light, fast in the corners, and I only lose out on the long straights..which is ok with me, 'cause I'm there to ride, not race. That being said, I routinely stuff guys on more powerful machinery through the corners, because the bike is so quick handling and forgiving...(certainly can't be because of my ability... )
