Upperbody strength and biking?

I am seriously considering becoming a profressional biking, it's been my dream for the last 5 years(I'm 17)
I go biking every day for at least 30 miles of intense training, but I havn't done any races yet.
The problem is, I've been told that having a strong(big) upper body isn't good for biking. Before I became serious with biking I did a lot of strength workouts for chest biceps triceps and shoulders, and I have a big upperbody for someone my size, I'm 5'6 and I have 16 inch arms. How bad is this for professional biking?

Professional riders don't have or want bulky muscle mass where it doesn't do them any good. It adds weight and wind resistance and it requires 75-90% of your energy to overcome wind resistance. You want to concentrate more on workouts on the bike. You need to train a lot more then 30 min a day to become competitive.

Can't really see it hurting you. At least you are in shape. While it's not a really needed attribute to biking, depending on style, I cannot see that being a fault.
