Unpopular Music Opinions

I am truly glad that all this Smashing Pumpkins bashing is going on in the UN - popular musical opinions board... it really actually says good things for the band, which, admittedly is one of my favorite banRAB...

Hopelandic is the one I mean. It's a ridiculous idea. I listen to a large amount of foreign language music and love it because you can tell that these languages are steeped in culture and are very beautiful. Making up a language just takes away from all that.

This is all very confusing. So, I should know about the Sex Pistols, even though I hate them? I haven't heard every single on of their songs, but I've heard most.

Maybe I should rephrase what I said. From what I've heard, Pretty Vacant is the Sex Pistols' only good song.

These songs are better but still decidedly mediocre, IMO.

Honestly, this sounRAB very similar to the early Fall Out Boy I posted earlier in this thread with a keyboard thrown in...

This is an objectively wrong statement.

Launching the progressive rock genre IS pretty groundbreaking. There are earlier albums that could be considered prog but ITCOTCK is the first to not have any blues or r&b influences. For a rock band that was pretty unheard of.

I agree with latter they were doing good things. Instrumentally solid and my only problem with them is Zach. It's just that he rubs me the wrong way. When I hear something I like it or I don't. Then I go back and look and see if there's more to it that my basic impulses. Good lyrics or vocal approach [refering to the musical writing approach for certain situation] can gain my respect and to me he doesn't have it. I was agreeing with you that lyrics and vocals aren't a good reason to not like band.

Noise rock is immense when done well. Melt Banana still kick many heavier banRAB into touch easily.

The disregard for genre rules is a major pull for me. Who wants to follow a set pattern?

maybe i should have included a "most of the time" in there. how many offensive mainstream pop songs have you heard lately? and it sounRAB like you are a bit bitter about the whole rap thing. its rise is owed in large part to people enjoying it. and what isn't shoved down our throat? as long as you have some connection to media outlets your perceptions are probably influenced by them somewhat(YOU ARE A ROBOT BEING TRAINED BY MAD MEN).

I love Marcy Playground. I remeraber hearing them on Cruel Intentions and then listened to a couple of albums from then on.

And I'm also dead sick of RATM, such a nothing band for me.

The Beatles are one of the most cited influences on the development of progressive rock.

Yes, and that was all going on around the same time. That dosen't strip The Beatles of any originality, they had that to spare. OMG they took ideas from other banRAB?

Because thats unacceptable. Sure its not at all common for all banRAB to do that. Surely it isn't.

You take ideas from your influences, thats normal for any artist. The Beatles took their influences ranging from rock n roll to pop to psychedelic rock and made something out of it.

Sgt Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour may have taken ideas from the psychedelic rock movement, but the end result was not psychedelic rock, it was something different. Those albums along with Freak Out, Days of Future Past and Tommy really laid out the blueprints for the genre of prog.

And that on its own, is an original idea.

I'm afraid you're wrong. I would cite a lot of examples but I'm about to leave soon, maybe later.
