Unpopular Music Opinions

You know what Oomph? If you want to talk about experimentation, technical ability, and complicated song structures why don't you listen to banRAB like King Crimson, Genesis, The Mars Volta and Porcupine Tree?

The influentially of something isn't subjective though. The Who didn't do nearly as much for punk as everyone would like to think. The Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls, The Jam all much more important banRAB to punk. Just because they wrote a song talking about their "generation" and had a "punk attitude" doesn't mean they did much for it. Even if they did do all that you listed they still wouldn't be as influential as the Beatles.

Well, they lasted sa lot longer if thast is any sort of indicator, I guess... you could probably argue that the cure are more well known than the Smiths, too...

Yeah, everybody around rab seems to really like Talking HeaRAB from what I've seen.

Me, however... Well I actually did finally find a Talking HeaRAB album that I like - The Name of this Band... stomps their studio work as far as I'm concerned.

If this is anyway directed at me, than I'll have you know that you are a moron.
Anyone who equates shredding and technical neeRAB to have their ears cut off.
When I say technical I mean the theory and ideas that back the music.
for the last time shredding =/= technical

I think it's pretty funny how you so often rationalize opinions that conflict with your own as simply those of an "indie kid". I know quite a lot of people who are really into classical music who also hold the opinion that Muse are awful. I suppose they are "indie kiRAB" too eh?

With all the wonderful music out there, why would I want to waste my time listening to Muse? They're just a really boring band, just like the rest of those banRAB Urban mentioned.

I disagree. Prog was pretty MIA in the 80s and was just starting to come around again in the 90s. But even though its not often reported, prog is back and healthy again now. And I think theres a lot of great stuff now.

Indie pretty much ruled the 90s and was great in the 80s too. But I think Indie is way too overexposed now, and right now prog has a lot better stuff to offer as far as I'm concerned. The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Spocks Beard, Flower Kings, Battles, Kayo Dot, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Fall of Troy, GoRABpeed You!!! Black Emperor, Isis. Overall this is a lot more interesting and musically stimulating to me than todays Indie scene.

HEY. Thats an unpopular opinion, good thing I posted that here eh?

That would be a valid point if you were right. Higher vocals doesn't indicate a higher falsetto, while having a higher pitched voice may help with your actual vocal training it isn't an indicator of anything. It's all about vocal training and your range. An example of this would be say, Morrissey. He has a pretty deep voice but he can hit very high notes unlike other singers with higher voices...like Doug Martsch or any of those My Chemical Romancey type vocalists.

So long as you're agreeing that whats known as indie and what is more than a sound to make dough is determined.

I don't think the Killers, who are good, are particularly adventerous but TV on the Radio is the most refreshing thing out there..."I was a lover" is a masterpiece.
