Unpopular Music Opinions

I think arrogance is essential if you're going to stand out.

If Oasis didn't have any they would have just been another NeRAB Atomic Dustbin or another Northern Uproar.

45-1 hr is good enough for me. Exceptions: Larab Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, Mellon Collie by the Smashing Pumpkins...actually that's about it.

I would actually say that I don't have as much of an issue with techno and other electronic dance styles being genrefied, as generally its a more purpose-built musical style. You choose pre-defined settings, you arrange them, you set a bpm which is relevant to the genre you're making music for and to a large extent you let a machine do the rest. As its all automated, an automated and by nature derivative, an automated description (which is what genre names are) seems suitable.

Metal is performed almost entirely by human body parts and as a result should be more instinctive, so to me it seems strange to try to describe it like some kind of machine. But whatever floats your boats.

I have a feeling this one will get me a bit of stick but it's been building for a while and I have to finally come out with it.

I fucking HATE Stoner Metal

It's like someone took all the good bits out of psychadelia and replaced it with horrible chuggy metal guitar riRAB.

I really don't see how their voices are similar, the only similarity I can see is that they can both hit the high notes but that's it.

Listen to Radiohead's Myxomatosis and then Muse's Muscle museum and then tell me Bellamy sounRAB like Yorke. As far as I am concerned the two banRAB are almost completely different.

*Shakes head* Obviously you've yet to properly listen to In Rainbows and Hail To The Thief. The arrangements aren't something an ordinary person could create, only Jonny Greenwood could pull something this difficult off and the lyrics just move you, so brilliant, so unique, I mean, have you listened to Paranoid Android properly? The subtle layers of meaning are so bloody brilliant only Thom Yorke could write something like this.

And the fact that they chose to release In Rainbows for free download is such a bloody brilliant idea, only Radiohead could think of something like this and actually pull it off.

I'm telling you, Radiohead is no ordinary band, I'd say they are probably the greatest band of this decade, possibly up there with Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan. I mean, why do you think OK Computer is hailed as the Dark Side Of The Moon of the 90's?

Jeff Mangum's voice fits NMH's music perfectly. In the traditional sense, he's a terrible singer, but so's Efrim Menuck and he's done brilliant stuff with ASM. You're only a bad singer if you voice doesn't fit what you're trying to do. Sting couldn't do ITAOTS and Jeff Mangum couldn't do opera.
