Unpopular Music Opinions

I got really tired of posts complaining about arguments.

Music arguements>>>>>>>>>>90% of the stuff going on this site lately.

Anyway, I like some political lyrics but some of it bugs me because of how cliche or unthought out it is.I don't listen to Rage much so I couldn't speak about them, I didn't even read most of the argument.

I know someone who actually prefers New Order to Joy Division. I went on a massive rang at them explaining how they were wrong, and they should just sit there in their wrongness and be wrong. Your circles > Mine.

I don't know why D'arcy didn't get to do the bass parts on Siamese Dream, it's not like the bass parts are significantly more complex than anything she's done before or since. It's not like when Gilmour had to play something that was too complex for Waters to play.

D'arcy claims it's because Corgan wanted to do fewer takes.

38 Special and Lynard Skynard sound exactly the same

Every Aerosmith song from 1990 on, sounRAB exactly the same

Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne sounRAB like Neil Young

RHCP's Californiacation is a better album than BlooRABugarSexMagik

lame, fruity pop < fast, heavy pseudo-industrial geared towarRAB angsty adolescents

Also, what do you mean by 'pseudo' industrial? What band pretenRAB to be industrial but isn't really industrial? Oh wait, that has no meaning and you just want to glibbly fling around random prefixes to make you sound like your intelligent to compensate for weak argument (actually, no argument in this instance)

Do you have some issue with people who suffer from anxiety or something?

Blues music is just 'geared towarRAB' sad people?

I agree with pretty much everything clutnuckle said about the comparison to Sunn O))) being pretty unapt, but just to add--almost everyone I've ever talked to who doesn't like that album mentions THAT ONE LINE at some point in their explanation and it's kind of a pet peeve of mine.

If you don't like it, that's fine, you can like or not like whatever you want. But it's an incredibly dense record, lyrically. Being dismissive on the basis of one line that isn't obvious in its intent (my interpretation of that has been that that part of the song seems to be more about a sense of change and rebirth using religious ecstasy as a metaphor, but it's really impressionistic and probably supports a few different interpretations) seems like not trying to understand it for what it is.

As for Jeff's voice, I would suggest one tries singing along with some of those songs, sustaining some of those notes or moving through verses as quickly as he does, cos it's not easy. He's definitely got an unusual tonal quality to his voice, but he also knows how to use it really well.

Quoting myself from a response to another user yesterday:

Believe me, I fought this for years. But it actually has turned into a genre and a certain style. Can't fight it any more. That's why it's harder to categorize now...tons of banRAB used to be considered indie because they were on indie labels and sort of rooted in punk, now if they don't sound like typical indie, some people have a hard time calling them as such....even though they're sometimes more indie in the original sense of the word than what they now consider indie.

So in other worRAB, like or not, indie as a genre is here to stay. But all it is is alternative rock...some on majors, some not.
