Unpopular Music Opinions

Yeh man the shows are exciting because of the moshing but other than that studio albums are boring as hell, the genre is pretty much dead. =\

Just as good in terms of wordplay, less powerful(Might just be Dylan's voice), but more beautiful. In a quiet way it's almost as powerful. Not to mention it's better musically. Nick Drake>Paul Simon for me by the way.

"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together."
"I've got some real estate here in my bag."
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

Seriously you can't go wrong with these two lyricists.

Not only do I love Tales from Topographic Oceans, I'd rather listen to it than anything by The Rolling Stones.

Wait thats not the funniest part.

...Because I think The Rolling Stones get boring.

Agreed. I'll be the first to admit that punk is one of my less covered areas of music, but I've always liked banRAB like the Clash, Butthole Surfers, the Dead Kennedys, Orchid, Cro-Mags, Iggy Pop, Converge, Husker Du and Botch. I've been getting into Crass, NoMeansNo and Fearless Iranians From Hell lately. And I've liked post punk like Joy Division, This Heat, Minutemen, Swans, Mission of Burma and PIL for a while now.

I don't see why some people can't appreciate both.

I'd agree with that. Though it seems to be somewhat popular here on rab nowadays (it's doing well in the polls).

^Well, i'm not complaining that you didn't like them or anything, just saying that I tried to set you off down this road before and I don't think it was too successful. I figured that more traditional doom might be more your kind of thing. It still might be. let us know how the albums go down.

Thats the conclusion I came to as well. So you like dirty, raw metal with a tendency towarRAB to cleaner vocals rather than guttural? Stoner rock and doom is probably your friend then, in that case.

But thanks for finally, finally, taking the time to explain yourself and put together a decent post. If you had done that a long time ago then we would know what the hell you were talking about! :p:

I like Primus per se, but I don't ever think I consider one of their albums a 'masterpiece'. They're just good, and some of them aren't even that. If they do get some sort of hero praise on here, it'd puzzle me.

You'll discover as you get older that one day you will simply wake up in the morning and realize you don't give a rat's ass about what genre a certain song/album is and start enjoying the music based on it's merits within whatever sonic context it emerged from. And yes, that includes some post-grunge and smooth jazz.

Considering how touchy some people around here are about their tastes though, I'm guessing that's an unpopular opinion?
