Unpopular Music Opinions

Mike Patton's voice is really fucking annoying, and he ruined a perfectly good Dillinger Escape Plan EP.

99.99% of what is played on "classic rock" radio (dad rock) is some of the worst music ever created. EVER.

lol, I guess so.

Regarding Battles, GoRABpeed You!!! Black Emperor, and Isis, it is interesting to find that they are very much acclaimed within the indie community. Not only that, but the first two are even frequently grouped as "indie". Hell, even in the case of Isis, I've heard terms like "indie metal" thrown around.

As for Battles in particular, I think it is the very case in point which demonstrates what is going on the best of all: that they have been so closely associated with the indie community tells me that, in many ways, it's all come back full circle! Prog is now indie all of a sudden, finally endorsed by those who scorned it for so long.

I think that's a positive sign, though. The best way forward for music at this juncture, I believe, is for artists to not shy away from trying certain things in order to avoid an unwanted label.

This is actually a really hard question to answer since it isn't for any technical reason. I just feel so disconnected from her music that its beyond unenjoyment. For me its like listening to a wall of sound thats the equivalent of a talking mom with a guitar.

Maybe in topsy turvy land. 2pac is the only one fritter mentioned that doesn't do it for me.

I'm also puzzled as to how and why a fan of Iggy Pop, Danzig and Joy Division would hate The Doors. That's like being a Beatles hating Oasis fan.

Not as overrated as The Stooges.

Or The Clash actually.

Unpopular music opinions... let's see.

I think The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are incredibly overrated. I've heard most of their songs and I cannot think of one that is even remotely good.

MTV doesn't have a thing to do with quality. My point was that a lot of the banRAB I mentioned had nothing to do with MTV yet everything he mentioned was mainstream. It just seems convenient that he wouldn't know music outside of the mainstream and thus could be play the blissful ignorance card all day long in a discussion about music.

Aenima is both more consistent and more grounded than Lateralus. Which is my favorite depenRAB on what mood I'm in... but I could think of other reasons to prefer Aenima.

Yeah, you really walked straight into that one.

I felt like I was the only one who hated Linkin Park when their first album came out...like, everyone was taking crazy pills or something. I think people figured it out by their second.

In terms of amplitude of innovations, and not the sheer effect of them, yeah I'd say that win goes to the 70s. Kind of depenRAB on which way you look at it though, and I'd that in 'general' there really isn't a perfect pick.
