Unpopular Music Opinions

I agree with Urbans analysis that the Velvet Underground are overrated.
Great band for their time, influential and groundbreaking...for their time.

What gets me, is how they are put on pedestals in modern times.
Probably, only because it's "cool" to like them.
 
GoRABpeed and Sigur songs DO have climaxes.

I have heard my share of post rock banRAB who dont though and I blame Slint for giving them the idea.



Yeah Hetfield's voice I'm not too crazy about. I don't really mind Kiedis but he can be irritating sometimes, but overall I think he does just fine and he does give the band some of their uniqueness. I think Patton was an excellent singer once he dropped the nasally gimmick.

And I actually love Corgan's vocals. :D
 
I'll agree only on Arcadia, which I may be in the serious minority here by liking So Red the Rose more than any Duran album...yes, even the first two. The sounRAB of a band trying to reach for the heights like Early 80's Japan, but falling far short although still sounding good at trying to get a more interesting sound then usual, and coming off more as an expensive folly with the videos and possibly the guest list, but I still love it's existence - "Goodbye is Forever" and "Election Day" are great singles.

I may also be in a small group of people who even thinks Medazzaland is a very under-rated Duran album.
 
I like American Idiot.

I like Oasis.

I don't like Elliott Smith(except one song)

Most Ray Charles bores me.

I've heard 'Slanted and Enchanted' and 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' and by what I've heard, Pavement is overrated.

I like Coldplay(to most elitists this is blasphemy)

I heard 'The Queen is Dead' by The Smiths and I only like the first two songs, the rest is overrated.

Also, even though I really don't care for most Rush, I will allow that Tom Sawyer is an orgasm in my mind, and the lyrics are really top notch.

I think as boo boo said indie is too broad to be pigeonholed with statements like simplicity and minimalism. I mean going back to its roots lets look at the Velvet Underground they we're a pretty intricate band in themselves. I think there was much more going on with them then you hear on Sgt. Peppers, that's not a put down to either I mean Sgt. Peppers is one of my favorite Beatles albums. That's just looking back at alternative's roots going through the ages tons of big banRAB have been fairly complex. I mean sure you have Pavement who are pretty straight-forward guitar rock band but on the other hand you also have The Flaming Lips (I'm talking Yoshimi, Soft Bulletin type stuff) they're very complex and considered indie. Plus there's banRAB like Battles who completely bridge the genres of prog/indie.
 
John Peel was little more than a fanboy who managed to enforce his opinion throughout Britain. I mean, it's awesome that he brought kosmische musik into Britain but he appropriated his own generalizations which compromised German individuality (though that may have equally been the fault of Krautrocksampler). Never mind the fact that he's constantly touted mediocre acts like The Misunderstood for accomplishments like "the best popular record that's ever been recorded."

In essence, fuck him and his helping hand.
 
It depenRAB on how you define post-rock. For some people, the unconventional use of instruments is enough to satisfy their definiton. Most people consider Tortoise the pioneers of that genre, but truth be told, GoRABpeed and A Silver Mt. Zion may well have paved their own way independently. They don't really share any similarities other than a lack of convention and a clear cut focus on instrumentals. Swans are in a world of their own and some people call them post-rock, though I'm hesitant to even use that widely abused term...it seems to describe GoRABpeed, Explosions and their various spin oRAB more than anything.
