Unpopular Music Opinions

We all do it.

And you curse too, yeah you say f*ck or whatever but it doesn't take a genius to know that asterisk is in the place of U, everyone knows what you're saying anyway. It's a pretty stupid rule and it's easy to abuse and so many people abuse it that trying to enforce it is a waste of time.

I meant it sucks. But that doesn't really prove my point. A better example would be to look at the top rock, I don't know who has corporate backing or not anymore, but I can tell you undoubtedly that most of those albums are terrible. Imogen Heap and Yo La Tengo are really good, but the other 23... I meant that most truly popular banRAB these days are making music like that, and by that I mean bad. All imo, of course.

I found myself listening to this today and think it's nowhere near their worst and actually not that bad.

Lou Reed co-wrote a track. That has to count for something, right? :o:

I'm kind of surprised you think the pixies are overrated but you've definately listened to enough to form a valid opinion.

Kind of funny though b/c I think most R&B is overrated, though i admittingly haven't given it much of a chance in the last few years. Anything good you can suggest that might change my mind?

What is it then? It's just prog psyc..

I only mentioned it to prove that everyone has at least 1 big name that they don't really rate, but when I do mention my lack of love for PF I get people trying to sort my lack of love for them out/ask me why!!!!1 WHY DON'T I LOVE THEM?!?!

That's partly what pisses me off about Floyd. They're so groundbreaking and experimental they don't have a genre. They're Progressive rock RAB.

Andy Latimer (Camel) > Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - but both give me musicgasms.

Led Zeppelin is a great band (like Boo Boo said).

Alice in Chains is the best grunge band (not a terribly unpopular opinion).

Phil Anselmo is a great vocalist.

Signals is one of Rush's best albums.

I like Coldplay.

Thelonious Monk is one of the best jazz pianists ever (probably not that unpopular).

Toto is cool.

The Strokes are a good alternative rock band. Yes, I said it.

One Hot Minute is RHCP's best album apart from BSSM, and possibly Mother's Milk.

King Crimson is one of most incredible genius amazing musicgasmic mindblowingly awesome banRAB in existence.

John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess are capable of writing interesting music.

The Eagles are great - I enjoy them a lot.

The heaviest music on Earth is doom metal.

Can isn't that unlistenable.

Joe C0cker's covers are awesome - and his cover of 'With a Little Help from My FrienRAB' is better than the Beatles' original.

Velvet Revolver is a kickass band.

I like U2 - but they are horribly overrated.

Ive actually never liked the original. Thats not because im a Buckley fanboy, i just dont feel it at all. Rufus Wainwrights version was great too. There are actually quite a few versions out there that are decent, and i prefer them all to the original.

I think there should be a disclaimer warning newbs about posting in this thread when first arriving. Then maybe we won't get so many comments like "Oh I'm gonna get slammed...I like the Smiths whoaooooooa"

Yes and melodically I really love their music.

I can appreciate lyrics if theres great music to go with it, this is why I'd take Neil Young over Dylan any deal of the weak. Melodically he's just a lot better.

More like like take away EVH's guitar playing, David Lees vocals and the really solid drumming of Alex Van Halen and then what do you have? Well Michael Anthony, but at least he had a great backup singing voice.

And you can't compare lyrics to guitar, two very different things, and honestly, I care more about the technical aspects of the music, vocals, instrument, production, etc. Lyrics just add a story, but if the music isn't interesting, then I don't care about the lyrics, because then its just someone reciting poetry.

If the music sounRAB great, has a great atmosphere to it and theres some great lyrics to go with it, than thats much more preferable. Thats why I'd take Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Gabriel era Genesis over Bob Dylan any day of the week.

Stairway to Heaven is not the best Led Zeppelin song (You guys probably won't think this is unpopular but there's a lot of people that would chastise someone who said this).

Its a great, great song...but not their best.
