Unpopular Music Opinions

That they are frequently "cited" doesn't make it true that they were particularly significant to either its existence or its development.

Am I criticizing them for that?

Again, I wasn't criticizing them for it.

Fine. Who are you arguing with anyway? Me, or somebody else? I wasn't disputing any of that.

Not really - parody had become a rock form much earlier, what with The Fugs and Mothers Of Invention etc. in 1966.

If I need to state the case a bit clearer, then I will. The point here is that The Beatles were not in any way shape or form the be all and end all of music in the 1960s and had very little in terms of pioneering musical invention compared to the likes of the big players in the underground. They were a great band, yes, but a truly cutting edge one, no WAY. Anybody who claims otherwise is in a state of denial.

And it is in that sense - the sense of claiming they were the greatest musical innovators of the rock era and the be all and end all of 60s music - that they are overrated. Such claims are so far from the truth, they're almost criminal. The great sonic revolutions were happening in entirely different corners of the map; compared to the underground creative standard of 67-69, the Beatles sound retro.

See below.

Because when something revolutionizes another thing, it can't be overrated.

Then why bother.

I really DGAF if you think The Beatles suck. That's cool and all. But saying they're overrated? Nah.

I think DragonForce are awesome. I don't care what people say. They're not meant to be taken seriously. They have epic, uber-catchy melodies. Lulz-worthy, but oh so cheesily epic lyrics. They incorporate video game sound effects in their music for crying out loud. What's there not to love? ;)[/QUOTE]
Well, so far all of their fans that I've seen write use worRAB like "uber" without known what they mean and say "lulz" a lot. They overuse the word "epic" as well.

Oh, and they don't have any sort of hook, throwaway lyrics, and think incorporating video game sound effects with horrible music is a good idea.

I agree that Because Of The Times is their high point. I kind of separate the banRAB material by Because Of The Times + Only By The Night and everything thing before those two since those are the albums where their sound started to really change.

The thing that used to amaze me about Floyd when I first getting into them 3-4 years ago was the fact that I had no idea how to define what they did. The prog/psych tendencies are there, but I've never found them to be fitting descriptions of what they did. That's partially to do with the fact that they were the first band that amazed me (post-Green Day phase) so I always have a part of my cranium dedicated to putting them up on an immovable pedestal, even while I've learned that's not the case.

Then again, in retrospect, I don't really know what else you could call them. Rock music? Too general. So I'd have to go for 'prog/psych' in the end, if only by being forced into it.

edit: I also agree with what he said on The Wall. I'm still a teenager and all, but I can't stomach it like I used to be able to.

You stereotype the h*ll out of certain groups of people, call people pathetic based on their f*cking music tastes, etc...I'm pretty sure you're just a p*ss-poor troll, to be honest. If anything you're the worst poster here, because you're certainly the most f*cking annoying and arguably the most stupid as well. F@g.

all 12,168 of your posts are bad trolls

I'd argue this except Tom Waits is probably the weirdest artist to talk about, mainly because you either adore him or despise him. I can't stand the guy's voice, but I'm also not a huge Dylan fan or anything.

Muse declining? Idk, maybe. Perhaps they just felt that they'd saturated the space rock genre that dominated their first 4 albums and wanted to head in a new direction. I like The Resistance, granted, not as much as I like Absolution and Black Holes, and I wouldn't say they're "declining", just changing.

Animals is the closest they've ever been to a hard rock album, you might dig that one.

If you don't like RABOTM you probably won't like WYWH since it's similar but with lengthy prog instrumentals.
