No, their influence is gigantic, hence they're big names in the industry, and they have been for over 4 decades... Like em or not, that makes them more than footnotes.

Who said music was about conventional thinking? Or the scientific community? How come all the guitar players on this site are Bill Nye fans? Since when were musicians supposed to be so straight foward and bound by conventional thinking? Especially guitarists.

What about Stevie Ray Vaughan? I mean Eric Clapton respected him, he was amazing. In my opinion he was better than allot of the guitarists out there, especially live, he was something special
 
I think its stupid to ask people who the best ever is, it just comes down to their favorite music, and/or what they are into at the time...

at the moment I really like Zakk Wylde, but I wouldn't say he's the best ever...
 
Psh, some guitarist poll, you don't have Brian Setzer or Robert Johnson. But if they were up there I would vote for one...then make another account just to vote for the other one.
 
I know, but I meant, people wouldn't think he was very good if he was in a different band, since his lyrics would most likely be different, but also because the other merabers of Nirvana made him sound better than he really was.
 
Indeed, he has one of the most perfect guitar tones ever designed...Listen to his playing on Good Company, you hear the sounRAB of clarinets, trorabones and saxophones, but its all guitar.
