Ultimate Guitarist Poll

You can't put soul, emotion, feeling or whatever the hell you want to call it into a guitar. It, like every other instrument is just a tool, a tool for playing notes you have wondering around in your head. SounRAB like I'm over-simplifying it but I'm not, thats the way it is. Being emotionally atached to your own music, I understand that. People can put "feeling" into their songwriting, just not the music itself. Its all soundwaves. Soundwaves and therefore every note of music, has always existed. Music is a force of science, its not something to be limited by something as trivial and stupid as "feeling".

I enjoy making compositions on my bass and keyboarRAB all the time, some of them I think are quite good. Maybe if I made a funny face or added some lyrics about a bad relationship then I could convince guys like you into thinking I put a lot of feeling into it, even if I wrote it while I was in the bathroom.

Weither music moves or not is just subjective, there is no guarantee that says a record that dosen't move you wont move someone else. Its all a matter of intrepretation. Just like abstract art. Its superficial.

Emotion is overrated anyway. Its the leading cause of many of societies problems. So I take great pride in being a very aloof, cold individual with few emotional attachments. I am a Jedi.

Kurt Cobain is a terrible guitarist. Influential yes, but only because he influenced all music to steadily decline afterworRAB.

You guys are also talking about really popular, generic favorites for best guitarists. I don't even suppose that this could even turn into a Clapton argumant from the looks of the posters.

I would up on the top for Rock guitar(yes, it does include some regular favorites, but I feel they're deserving of thier rank)
Frank Zappa
Eddie Hazel
Robbie Robertson
Jeff Beck
Eric Clapton
John McLaughlin
Mike Keneally
Jimmy Page

Actually no, I said that the greatest guitarists sound completely different from everyone else. Thats why they are great. Guys that all sound the same are never great. Maybe SOME guys can sound CLOSE, but not exactly. How do you explain that?

Def zeplin? More emotion than Hendrix? You spelled era wrong. Hendrix had a fairly straightforward style. I disagree with you because you make stupid statements.

Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not Zappa. ZAPPA IS THE BEST...

Seeing as it's not a debate on who was the most influential revolutionary guitarist of all time and instead just one on who is the best, Hendrix shouldn't have so many votes.

I'll go with Michael Angelo Batio. :afro: Not that I'd ever be bothered listening to him or anything

Yea, tell that to jimi hendrix. actually, he's dead. so try...Santana. Or...David Gilmour. i think looking at music as a pure scientific/mathematical formula is superficial. technically, it is a formula. But that is the base value. Old blues men from the mississippi delta (Arguably the starting of most if not all modern music) did not look at thier music as a mathematical equation, i guarantee you. i never saw robert Johnson play, and for all you or i know, he sat there with the same expression the whole time he played. but you can still hear what he wants you to. I know plenty of great musicians who can play anything they want, but they will never sound like some of the goRAB we have mentioned. ever.
so Boo-Boo, i suggest you become a politician. Conservative i think. you have a knack for stonieness toward personal suffering.
