Ulcers on tongue (geographic tongue) Please help

Ok so I've had this for probably a year, maybe longer. First started because I had some plaque like stuff on the back of my tongue, I asked the doctor what to do about it, he said it was thrush, and I needed fungal medication. So I applied daktarin (miconazole) oral gel to my tongue, which made the condition about 20-30 times worse...literally. It was only after this that I started getting ulcers on the tongue.

The doc persisted in saying it was a fungal infection. So I tried Nizoral (ketoconazole 200mg) tablets. Which were apparently very strong anti-fungals. This did not improve the condition at all.

Also tried other anti-fungals but no improvement, not even a little. All the anti-fungals have done have made it a heck of a lot worse.

The same doc still persists in saying that the problem is a fungal infection, but I really don't think so as no anti-fungal medication has improved the condition at all.

Another doc said that it could be related to having a bad diet, which I did have. So I've improved my diet, for the past 6 months I've had veggies (maybe 3 cups a day) wheat grass/barely grass shots 2-3 times a day. Fruit every day. Plus approx 200 grams protein a day, and about 3500 - 4500 calories every day of food, lots of carbs, etc... So there are no nutirents I'm lacking. I take supplements like creatine, glutamine, and protein powder including many amino acids etc...

I do body building so I exercise with weights 2.5 hrs a week, 2.5hrs cardio a week too.

I'm not sure if this is related to my problem or not, but I've been getting increasingly bad upset stomaches early in the day. Some days I am incredibly close to throwing up. (I don't drink alcohol). It's worse on an empty stomach as soon as I wake in the morning.

Summary
--------------------
anti fungals don't work
my diet and exercise is very good

I don't get colds or anything like that since improving my diet, so I'm guessing my immune system is really good now. So I really should have good health, but instead I still have these ulcers covering my tongue. They get really bad, cover the whole tongue, and then they all go away, but then one or two days later they start to come back again (takes a week or two to progressively cover tongue again). This cycle repeats endlessly (for over a year now).

Please help.

Thanks

Just in case it is thrush:

I had a case of thrush last year due to an antibiotic. The only thing that worked for me was 8 drops of tea tree oil in 8 ounces of water. Gargle 2-3 times per day for couple days. DO NOT SWALLOW. Mine was gone after gargling twice, but I still did it one more day. Since then, I have seen Tea Tree Mouthwash and toothpaste, which may help.

There have been studies shown that people with ulcers might have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 can help improve the outlook of these. If these are really painful your doctor can prescribe a special mouthwash/anti-inflammatory to help with the healing process and the pain. We are talking about aphthous ulcers/canker sores right?

When I first started getting the ulcers I was taking B vitamins as supplements regularly, even months before the first ulcer. So I don't think it would be B vitamin deficiency.

I've actually just gone through and found a few studies on the condition, (searched my uni library databases, should have thought of doing that before), and found a study in Japan that treated the condition with cyclosporin with good results.

I found another study that says the condition is a form of psoriasis. And cyclosporin effectively treats psoriasis, so that would be why it worked on geographic tongue.

So I've just printed out the studies, and I'm going to go to a doctor and show them the studies and hopefully they'll prescribe me cyclosporin, rather than just more useless anti-fungals.

Well I hope that what your taking will help you in the end. I just had an ulcer on my tongue and its almost gone. All I needed was a B12 injection and this special mouthwash. Whether they come back though is something that I will have to find out.

hi , me rusty ,Ulcer on tongue we feel alot of problems .when we affected by this infection we feel so weakness to eating anything .we have no tast everything feel just like chille. inthis sitution we need quick treatment by ENT specialist.we need so carefull about escaping frome any other infections.trie clean or tongue again and again.

When I was in my 30's, I had many tongue ulcers and I found several things that helped. I had to watch how much chocolate, orange juice, tomatoes, pineapple, and other acid foods I ate. A little went a long way with me. My doctor also recommended I take a supplement called L-Lysine which can be found with the vitamins and supplements in the drug department. By limiting acidic foods and taking L-Lysine, I was cured in a matter of about 10 days. I still have to watch the acidic foods, but I do ok now. Do a search for L-Lysine and check it out with your doctor. It might be your anwer. Good luck!
