Folks,
inspired by the daft Man vs Food programme on Dave, I was wondering whether anyone knows of any UK food challenges.
Looking for one in Birmingham for a special occasion, but it would be great to build a database
Whaddaya know?

Personally I know the stupidity of cheering people on to eat food and the 'wrong thinking' when it comes to the attitude many hold towarRAB eating (the guy on the programme praises some meals for being 'perfect comfort food' ).
And when there are people starving in the world, I recognise that the outrageous gluttony which seems to live guilt-free in Americans should attract rightful objection.
But food is relished by most people, with cookery programmes flooding our channels constantly, and I think there are worse things than having the very occasional bit of fun with a food challenge.

A place near me in Jersey does a Challenge burger, but it's not really of Man vs Food standarRAB. It's, ahem, 'only' 12oz of beef, with bacon and all the trimmings and a load of Curly Fries.

I saw a skinny little surfer kid (probably about 9) polish a Challenge off in the time it took me to eat one of the regular 6oz burgers. No idea where he put it, he should have looked pregnant by the time he finished it.

i bloody love Man v Food, and hope to chow down on some mental food offerings if we ever go out to America again.

I saw the episode last night where he had to eat 5lbs worth of hot dogs, chilli and chips in 20 mins, which seems quite stingy on time - he didn't manage it.

only 1 person has managed that challenge, and did it in just 9 minutes!!

but as for the UK, i would love to find some places that did these kind of challenges (especially in Kent) - closest i have come was with a group of frienRAB in an all you can eat chinese bufet, where we simply just tried to eat as much as possible, and ended up consuming over £150's worth of food between 4 of us.

Flaming Grill Pub Co.

Flaming Challenge.....1 burger bun with the following:

2 flame grilled 12oz beef burgers
2 breaded chicken breasts
Spicy Chilli Beef
Melted Cheddar Cheese
Onions
Crispy Bacon
Onion Rings

Served with chips!

£8.99 and you've 15 mins to finish!

I couldn't even eat 1 in that time, I'm a slow eater

There is the Curry Hell up at the Rupali in Newcastle:

Rupali Indian Restaurant Newcastle - Curry Hell

Been looking for a chicken wing challenge here in the UK like in the US, the hot ones not speed eating.

There's a restaurant in Glasgow called Sizzler's Steakhouse, and they have one meal called the "Sizzler's Challenge" - it's a 40oz steak with the usual bits on the side. Costs £25 (or did when I ate it). Size was approx 2" thick all over and filled an entire oval-shaped dinner plate. My dad and I had it once - glad I did it, but never again. I had the meat sweats for ages after and it took days to digest. Although the meat was delicious, by the end of it I was so sick of steak I didn't have another one for about six months.

and some is seriously unhealthy though.

I always drool over the BBQ pit restaurants they show. 24 hr slow roasted brisket !!!! Would love to go on a food tour of the States visiting the restaurants Adam goes to

You can do a pretty good brisket on a 10 hour, indirect, slow and low cook with a gas BBQ. Done some myself and the meat falls apart and it's hard to mess up. The real difference is that the US pits have super secret rubs and sauces which are the real appeal.

ive always wanted to try to walk in to Maccy D's with £100 and order a 100 Haraburgers - but dont think i ever will !
