Twilight the anime?

You mean....vampires that are...not bishounen!!! And don't have tragic pasts making all the girls want them? And are actually scary creatures of the night?

I rather watch AMV Hell 0 than go through 5 minutes of a Twilight anime if this becomes true. And, that's a fact you can quote me on.
 
Is there something I'm missing here? What is it about Twilight that causes such hate in so many people? I haven't seen it but I don't recall this much hate towarRAB one franchise in quite some time... unless you count the Hanna Montana movie.
 
IMO, this can only be good for the anime industry. While I would not personally partake in this, new blood can only be good for the anime industry. Put this on Cartoon Network alongside some new anime, and we've got ourselves an anime revival.

So, bring on Twilight the anime.
 
I haven't read it myself, so I don't personally know, but what I usually hear is that it's badly written and the characters are all Mary Sues with cheesy drama or something to that effect.
 
Rust, while you have a point. Think about it. While this anime will undoubtedly be dubbed and popular, this means that the next generation of anime fans are the least intelligent of twelve year old girls. I've seen vampire loving anime fangirls and I do not think I want that to be the industries future.
 
That is basically the gist of it. Particularly the Mary Sue's, Gary Stu's and relatively mediocre writing. Thought that's just me.

Plus the fanbase can get to ********-level so that can be a big negative.

Also, I can think of at least three other books series that should have been made anime before Twilight. Now this is all IMO, but of course, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl (hey if they can do Geass, they can do this) and Ender's Game.
 
While the books are far from great literature, I think the hate it gets is pretty silly considering 99% of this board is not in the series' demographic. I mean, I like the books/movie and I'm not part of the demographic either. Really, vocally hating on something not meant for you in the first place is pretty silly to me.
 
I've seen a ton of bishounen anime, and as bad as those can get, Twilight is a negligent piece of fiction with countless structure problems, vile characterization and themes, and just all-round unprofessional writing in every way a fiction novel can be.

Compared to that, bishounen anime is freaking masterful.
 
Yes, I guess you have a point there. We did grow up though, I'm just scared that this time I'll have to witness it in a state of relative sanity. Hopefully though they will grow up themselves.

Much as I hate rowling as a human being and an author: Why not a harry potter anime, much larger fanbase, slightly less horrendous plotholes.

In any case, while not a fan this looks... interesting to say the least. Although I'll have to make a greater judgement when they finally show the character designs and so forth, and hopefully they're... palatable to the eyes.

And why is it that I can't help but place the first opening to Death Note as the main theme to the Twilight anime?
 
JK Rowling has explicitly said at points she doesn't want Potter animated. I mean, a lot has changed in the western perception of what can be marketed in animation between when she said that and now, but I really wouldn't expect anything in that regard. Even though side material like the Tales of the Beedle Bard would make great fodder for shorts from say Ghibli, Gainax Bones, Manglobe, Production IG and Studio 4C, I just doubt it'd come to pass.
 
I thought they were more aimed at High School/College level really, I guess it has to do with me seeing Twilight series as a big read among most of my female classmates, and my sister and her frienRAB being fans of the series.
 
I honestly don't know when people anointed Rowling to "literary" author. I'm not denying she has a talent for stringing together worRAB, but I've read countless fantasies and would rank the Harry Potter series well below my top 50 in terms of originality, plotting and characterization. I don't see why people are bringing her into the conversation as some paragon of virtue and dignity to slag Meyer.

This isn't even a defence of Meyer's Twilight series, who is, in my eyes, mainly a teen popular fiction-league writer. But there's nothing wrong with that.

As for a Twilight anime, I'm like, "So?" There are plenty of anime adaptations of various existing franchises these days, another one isn't going to change the face of the world for better or for worse.
 
You know, I wouldn't even care except there are amazing Japanese authors whose works would make great anime, even for the emogirl demo (apologies to PurpleHairedWonder,) such as Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood.
 
Seeing that preexisting properties are the life blood of most anime productions, I don't really see what's the big deal about it. If nothing else the wank from the Twilight fandom and anti-fandom would be interesting read.
