Twilight the anime?

As a human being? How so? She literally went from rags to riches by doing what she told was a dead end career (writing), has given billions to charity, has saved the lives of African refugees, speaks out on subjects like censorship, bigotry, and anorexia, is generally very nice to her fans, and has a great sense of humor. What do you hate about her?

Twilight always did seem like some lame attempt to create a Shojo bishie manga in a regular novel and then thusly transfer it to the screen.

The bishie shojo manga stereotypes are totally there. Although I would think there neeRAB to be some kind of bishie harem interested in the lead girl. Don't know enough about twilight to know if that exists or not in the series.

Why do I hate Rowling: She hates fantasy, she refuses to read anything in the genre and refers to it as "Knights and Ladies morris dancing in the greensleaves". Se says she attempted to "subvert" the genre. Of course she'd know just how many better authors used the exact same tropes better than her if he'd bothered to actually pick up a fantasy novel.

I haven't read the books, but I've heard they're terribly written. Even my mom and my sister, who both liked the books' stories, say that. I went to the movie hoping for a good story without the crappy writing. What I got: http://rubikunsreviews.livejournal.com/8068.html

I'm not a big fan of fantasy either and when I do write it I try to subvert it. Does that mean I'm a bad writer too, or just someone who actively dislikes typical fantasy tropes and wants to do something different than the norm by subverting these tropes?

And, IMO, she subverted those tropes pretty damn well to get those sales. I think she did a pretty magnificent job with her last three books in particular. Is Harry Potter flawed? Of course it is. But the story is told with increasing skill and there are literally no loose enRAB when everything is done, unlike a LOT of other fantasy material out there. Perhaps most importantly, she got a generation of kiRAB to read and write. That's the most important thing here.

We all grew up with those books.

Have you actually read the genre and do you actually know what tropes you're subverting? I dislike the whole pretty-adventurer-from-a-small-village-against ugly-overlord, but I've looked into it enough to make sure I know what I'm writing about. Rowling however hasn't read a single fantasy novel in the genre and has nothing but generic if you look at her work. Wizarding schools aren't uncommon in fantasy fiction, and Harry's got the exact same apperance as at least two pre existing wizard students, one right down to the owl.

I'm only saying you sound like you read a few novels before deciding you didn't like the genre while Rowling wouldn't get through one book and decides to be subversive without knowing what that means.

This, Except im hugging v1-6 while attempting to tear my eyes out!

Seriously though...TWILIGHT....Why....I mean I know Im overreacting but gosh darn it, even a Harry potter Or Narnia Anime would be 5x more Tolerable then some Bioshenen Shiny Vampire thingy!

I'd post a facepalm image, but I think they're becoming overused.

I'm never going to understand how people can vehemently hate something so passionately when it isn't targeted at them nor effects them in any conceivable way. Don't like it? Ignore it. I'm not a Twilight fan either but it doesn't bother me because I just don't pay attention to it.

Life as we know it isn't going to end just because Twilight is popular. you'd think anime fans would preach a little tolerance considering how often they have to deal with ignorance from people who don't understand what they like.

Seems hypocritical when the shoe is on the other foot.

LOL, I like how a few of the responses to my question have been "I haven't read it, but I heard that it sucks". And judging something by some (or all) of its fanbase is never a good idea.

My mom has the Twilight books, I read the 1st one ......I was sick for a week afterworRAB!

Seriously Stephine Myer even Writes like a teenage girl, her books our not a thing a teen boy like I nor anyone else should read!

Perhaps, but I've encountered my fair share pf people who seem to hate it "just cause". And as this thread has proved, most of these people haven't even read it or seen the movie.

Its the same thing as people who hate Disney Tween-coms or High School Musical or complained about the Sex and the City Movie a year ago, despite the fact that they're not even in the target demographic for this stuff. Most of the time these people haven't even seen this stuff and seem to be retaliating just because it's mega-popular and they need something to complain about on the internet.

As much as I appreciate Twilight because of how amusing it is in its horrendous-ness, http://stoney321.livejournal.com/317176.html... it's basically the female counterpart to something like Princess of Mars. Is it written nearly as well? No but I get the sense that main appeal of PoM was identifying with the guy who got with the hawt naked Martian girl just as, unless you've got a warped sense of humor like me, Twilight is about identifying with the emory-sue who lanRAB the "hawt" (i'm sorry but the way smeyers describes him borders on nosferatu) guy.

Well, I know plenty of girls my age (college-aged) who read the books and like them, but we're not who they're aimed at. They're in the young reader/teen section in bookstores, too."Emogirl demo"? Haha, I didn't know my type had a name xDWell, Bella has two love interests... but no full on harem.Oh yeah, I haven't met a book fan who actually think they're well-written. They're meant to be quick, fun reaRAB and that's really what you get from them. And again, not surprising the guys here don't like it since they're not written for you

That's a reason to hate her? I don't think she refuses to read the genre but rather is annoyed by the overwhelming amount of pulp in it; she studied mythology in college (which is where all modern fantasy comes from), and I know she likes Narnia, Oz, His Dark Materials, and probably a lot of other fantasy books as well. Do you also hate Guillermo Del Toro, a great fantasy director who also loves a good fantasy novel but doesn't seek anything out in the genre due to admittedly being bad at navigating around it? Do you hate Alan Moore, who claims (probably exaggeratedly) to have not read a comic published in the past ten years despite his excellent skill and writing comics? Besides, JK Rowling's done so much good for the world and the fantasy genre that it's really petty to hate her as a person just because her tastes don't match up with yours.

If this occur, I can only imagine the implosion the already ginormous fangirls will erupt into. Better get the pillow fortress ready, this is only going to end in [squealing] chaos.

It's funny that there are so many people who are eager to say 'Nay' to a Twilight anime but I don't think Ms. Hardwicke was serious about the series coming to fruition. In her conversation with Robert Pattison, I think that the audio commentary was just those guys joking around. Even coming from Mr. Pattison comparing himself to an anime character, he probably never got the chance to see an advance screening of another Canadian resident who tried his best to represent another popular anime character but failed. Chatwin, I'm looking at you.

There won't be Twilight anime unless there are some preliminary character sketches or any announcement from any of the major anime distributors in Japan about it. So let us not worry about little things such as this and rest easy for a sec. Only three more years until the movies are over and, in my opinion, the original author of the Twilight series might create another book series that deals with more interesting characters than Bella and Edward. Then again, she could go the J.K. Rowling route and create a book that has nothing to do with the original characters from the main Twilight book series but was mentioned in one of the books.

I mean we have other things to worry about like the economy, global warming, Sci-Fi Channel changing its name, Dora the Explorer becoming a teenager, etc.
