trying to get my car speakers to bump, HELP if you know anything about car audio?

I have two 6x9 alpine speakers in my 99 cutlass that came with it from the original owner. i cantell he had a nice system in the car prior to selling it. my question is if i hook up an amp will it make the speakers bump. without it they dont sound bad but i can tell they could sound WAY better. if i shift the audio all the way left or right they start to bump a bit. but when centered they are sort of distorted. will the amp change anything? if so what do i have to look forward to. thanks!
 
6 x 9 speakers are not meant to bump hard. if you get an aftermarket deck @ 45rms that should help a little more.
dont get an amp for your 6x9 especially if they are stock speakers. even so, just get a deck rated at minimum 45 watts rms.

if you are already using an aftermarket deck then just get a cheap 10" or 12" sub and amp for bass.
 
You need to add a subwoofer in your trunk along with a power amp to drive the subwoofers. Go to a retail store like Best Buy and demo the subwoofer you like with your own source of material.
 
A new amp will def. change the sound. You have to take into account the fact that just having 2 good speakers in your car will not be sufficient. If the sound is distorted when centered you should check all your speakers to make sure they are not torn or damaged. Also if you are using a factory head unit that could be replaced to make the audio sound better. If you want it to bump, as in increase the bass, your best bet is a sub woofer in the trunk, hooked up to an amp. Car audio is a very tricky thing since cars are and absolute acoustic nightmare. It takes a lot of playing around and fine-tuning to get clean sounding bass.
