It's important to me, but I wouldn't like...freak out if he didn't. Truth is, I doubt an atheist would ever be elected president. We haven't even had a jewish president, or vice president (i believe).

the only "original president" you can say that about and have any credibility is Jefferson.

The treaty of Tripoli clearly states that the US was not founded on the Christian religion.

derrrrrrrrrr the treaty of tripoli

yes lets neglect the obvious here, the muslims wanted a treaty with OUR GOD and we were the only country without a state recognized religion

and that point of a treaty is an agreement between 2 governments, not between our gods

I don't think it's good to have a president who believes in an invisible man in the sky is watching all you do, but you can't get elected in this country unless you appear to believe in god

I'd prefer our president doesn't believe in made up beings actually...delusion isn't a good trait for the leader of the most powerful country on the planet.

I'd rather our president not believe in a wish granting space wizard but that's never going to happen. At least no president will ever publicly admit they are a non-believer.

you're obviously going to stick to this christianity bullshit so chalk up your asinine argument as a win.

meanwhile, here in reality, anyone that has a semblance of understanding as to the foundation of this country and the age of enlightenment which spawned it, understands that DEISM not christianity was a major component of the country's establishment

It is important that our president believe in a dramatically smaller federal government.

The first openly-atheist/agnostic president will be an important day for this country.

You're right, I should've said most of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. were deist.

A President of the United States does not need to believe in a Supreme Being to be able to properly govern. There's no evidence, scientific or other outside of speculation, that states that an individual in such a position would be better off, believing or not.

OH SNAP. It's a good thing those fine christian folk enslaved all those savages to help build our country.

Can I now too?

I didn't turn this into an argument.

You didn't read a single thing I posted. Sadly, if you did, you'd notice that I agreed with you. And now you're repeating what you posted earlier, congrats!
