Triangle..... What was it about?

thanks for trying make a bit more sense now:)
only thing is every time she had got on the boat her son was dead. and hwat of the bit where her son watched her kill her

I think heat have got it spot on it collaspses in it own cleverness

I thought is was a good movie.

I loved the bit

where the girl who got stabbed ended up always in the same place with copies all around her, it must have happened to the others too.

Understood Triangle pretty well until I saw Melissa George alive after the car crash.

I think the purgatory metaphor, while probably correct, is a bit of a cop out for explaining away a film which for me had a pretty poor understanding of temporal mechanics.

I started off thinking this was just a thrillerised and violent rehash of Star Trek TNG's Cause and Effect. But it got lost with what it was trying to do, and ended up not being particularly satisfying to anyone who tried to understand it.

The whole film would've been far better if after the car crash and seeing Melissa George dead, it had cut straight to her sleeping on Triangle. This would've been more satisfying for people who believed in either the purgatory/time loop side of it, or the whole film being some kind of dream she was having while asleep on the boat.

But seeing a third version of her after the car crash was just too WTF.

Seeing the third version of her after car crash showed that she was infact dead and it completed the cycle by showing her get in the taxi and getting on the boat.

she was gradually remembering what had happened. eachy time she got on the boat she was trying to alter the future and NOT crash and kill her son (i assume)

i think it all panned out quite well. heat is a rubbish magazine though, they always refer to 'snooty critics', ie people who actually know what they're talking about..

I think the film was good. I have seen movies where I really didnt understand what was going on and at the end I was left feeling fustrated and felt it was a waste of time. This was not one of them.

When the film finished I had 2 theories, 1 was that she was dead (Which was correct) and the second was that she was still caught in the loop. However I was leaning more towarRAB the fact that she was dead because it didn't quite fit that she was still in the loop. Up until I the point where I saw the nasty version of her with her son, I did still believe the film was about her being caught in a loop and it was to do with the effects if the bemuda triangle. After seeing the nasty version of her I knew something else was going on. After the car crash, I thought that she was dead because when the people crowded around the car crash they only saw one version of her (The one with the dress on who she had killed), plus the son. The other version was greyed out as was tyhe taxi driver.

I think the film was good because it had me constantly thinking and I didnt know what was really happening until the very end.

In the case of Triangle - it's SUPPOSED to make you think! All of the pieces are there and it's up to you to piece them together. That's the whole point.

Would you also call a jigsaw puzzle poor because you had to work out how to put it together?

I was like that too, i saw it last week and the whole audience at the end were looking at each other like wtf was that all about lol.

I still don't get it even reading all of that.

That's true but to be fair the way it was advertised was as a regular horror movie. Im sure if some people knew it wasnt the regular slasher movie they wouldnt have watched it. I was the opposite I wasnt interested in it initially as I thought it was just another horror movie. It was only when I heard of it's true nature that I wanted to watch it.:D

If you read this it makes a bit more sense-

Basically she is stuck in a time loop in purgatory because of how she treated her son, she is doomed to repeat this over and over and over again always with the same outcome. It's a punishment. In the film they referred to Sisyphus who is a mythological Greek God who had to push a rock up a hill only to have to roll back down again before he got to the top, this lasted for eternity as a punishment-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus

The boat was called Aeolus, Aeolus was the ruler of the winRAB in Greek Mythology, his name was shared by three characters who were very difficult to tell apart. In the film before the boat came the winRAB disappeared and then on the boat there were different versions of Jess who were very difficult to tell apart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeolus

So in short she is being punished by being forever made to go through the same events and no matter how hard she tries the outcome is always the same. She is stuck in a time loop in purgatory because of how she treated her son.

ok that makes a bit more sense, but i think the film is wasted if that much research is needed to make sense of it. And i'm an intelligent person so i can't even put it down to being a bit stupid :(

So she's dead and now living in Purgatory, living her death over and over in the same loop?

Where this film really falls down is that the completion of the cycle is, AFAICT, impossible.

When Melissa George (sack over head, black overalls, with gun version) is thrown overboard by another version of herself, we see her being washed up on shore and then going on to complete the cycle.

If it took one original completion of the cycle for more than one Melissa George to be on the liner at the same time, how did a second version of herself ever get on the ship to throw her original self overboard in the first place?

Sorry :D

Good point and I'm in the same boat as you - didn't like the idea of just another slasher flick, but was intrigued by it actually being so much more than that. :)

Great film.

I watched this last night with a smoke and it was a real mindblow. I just got the feeling she killed her son, then she drowned as was trapped in Limbo/Hell

Didnt really want to dwell too much on it.

Because the only way to get the boat they were all on to come back is to kill everyone, everytime they all die the boat comes past the cruise ship with them all on again.
