Transformers trailer - looks AWESOME!

Yeah it does look good although it is a pity we have to wait untill the 27th July before it is released in the UK. Then again The Simpsons Movie and Transformers on the same day isnt too bad!

And your point is what?
Pearl Harbour was OK.
Armageddon was a brilliant film.
Bad Boys was a Briliant film.
Bad Boys 2 wasnt as good as the first, but still very enjoyable.

Well I suppose it's open to subjectivity.

I thought they were all garbage. .....Especially Pearl Harbour. That was my point.

I hope Transformers is good, I like Transformers. But as with his other films I'm expecting a lot of CGI, lots of explosions, lots of running and jumping and not much else.

he is absolutely top notch on action sequences though.

Pearl Harbour was one of worst films ive seen. the history and the action sequences where perfect - but the rest...!! what was the point? i just wished everyone died in that movie!

the island was good i thought .

one of my mates at work absolutely adores Transformers. he loved them in his youth (i was more He-Man) - etc, etc, etc
but he is disgraced with what he knows of this movie. refusing to watch it or show any interest. i think because they changed the design of bumblebee! or something.

I agree. Bay may not be known for historical or scientific accuracy in his films, and he does tend to go a little over the top on the sentimental garbage - but he is good at mixing action and humor with dramatic fx shots and music.

This film is about vehicles that transform into 30ft robots with big guns. Just take this film for what it is - a full on epic, scifi, action flick.

Personally I think its going to be an absolute riot - Cant wait :D

"Autobots - Transform and roll out" :D

Having the producer of 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' and a script from the writers of 'Catwoman' and 'Mission Impossible 3' are unmittingating factors however.

I think it's going to be an utter disaster unfortunately. Not because it's different (though I see precious little point in buying the licence to a property and retaining nothing about it save for a few of the trademarked names), but just because the changes seem to have been completely happ-hazardly done and for the most part are changes for the worse. The new vehicles tend to be extremely ugly because they stuck to GM cars only to simplify the licencing, and the robot designs are simply ugly because they're too busy, not because they're different. The Citroen aRAB are a good example of how to change and modify the transformers, but still retain something that looks pretty good and like a transforming robot.

Put it this way - Soundwave is not in the film. But there are two characters in the film who were both supposed to be Soundwave and are now completely new, original, different characters simply because they didn't seem to know what the hell they were doing well into filming. That doesn't strike me as being a way to make a good film.

And that makes me sad. Because we're not going to get a better shot at this from a competent filming team.

Eh? What do you mean by "supposed to be"? Soundwave was removed well before production as mass-shifting was vetoed early on in the scripting stage. The closest was the name change from Frenzy (scripted) to Soundbyte (production).

I genuinely think Bay will make a good job of a film version of what was, lets face it, a badly animated Saturday morning toy advert. Not that he's a great film-maker - he isn't - but he is just the right type of film maker for this task.

Blackout was supposed to be Soundwave in an early draft of the script. That's why he has an animalistic partner, and has been confirmed several times by Don Murphy on his boarRAB. Roberto Orci said on the official site boarRAB that Scorponock was originally going to be Ravage. That was scrapped to try and make Soundwave more like his old self by having the transforming boombox, but that it would transform into a human sized robot to avoid having mass-shifting, but the Helecopter remained and went through several different identities (first Vortex, another helecopter Transformer from 1986, then Incinerator, finally Blackout).

However, the transforming boombox went down like a lead balloon online, so they decided to try and mittigate the damage by "saving" Soundwave (ie putting him off to a possible later film in the hope some kind of solution would occour to them), and renamed the character "Soundbyte". The name "Frenzy" was later applied and is what it is currently as the trademark was available for the action figure.

Okay... I'm following so far, except that you are talking about rewrites to the script which all took place long before primary filming started (the leaked script contained no Soundwave, and was picked up by the usual suspects before filming even began). The only thing I'm querying is the implication that the character was removed "well into filming".

Personally, the amount of daft fans (and I'm not including you here, but I am including Rincewind78's mate and most of the talkback dorks on AICN) who are crying and complaining that the design has been changed so much want to see giant 80s toys on the screen, which may fulfil a long held childhood wish, but would look - for want of a more PC way to put it - utterly retarded.
